I got to his bed and he threw aside the covers. The hospital gown he wore wasn’t anything like what I had been stuck with, and I found myself thinking that although I came from money, no one ever took care of me like this. Like all the money in the world would have been worth it to make sure I was comfortable.
“Come on, Margaux. I need more sleep since you woke up.”
I nodded and climbed into bed.
“The second I’m off these fucking pain killers, I’m making you pay for that, princess. Now sleep.”
He wrapped me in his arms even though I was worried I might hurt him. He wasn’t letting go. A different kind of warmth spread through me, starting at my heart as he kissed me on the head.
“Night, Talon.”
CHAPTER 22
RONAN
“Here,” I handed the pictures to Talon.
“He talk?” Talon asked.
I nodded.
“We’ll be making a visit, but for now, just heal. We’ve thrown enough of a detour that it will slow the issue.”
He tossed the photos to me.
“Would have been nice to have been able to be there, but it looks like you guys made sure he paid for his sins.”
I nodded. “You know how Jett gets when he’s hyper-fixated on something. He was angry you got hurt and they threatened Margaux.”
“Talon, here’s some soup.”
I turned toward the door to see Margaux coming in.
It had been four days since Talon had been stabbed, and the stupid bastard just couldn’t take his time.
“Stop pushing yourself. You had a fucking organ removed,” I said. I reached for him, but he was already sitting up on his own, ready for the tray Margaux put over his lap.
“Do you need anything else?”
I watched as she moved around him, fluffing his pillow, holding out a pain pill to him, and handing him a bottle of water.
“I’m good, princess. Maybe just come keep me company?”
His words had me blinking away the trance I’d been in. I didn’t want to actually like her, but watching her care for one of us wounded? She fit. She was never supposed to fit. Margaux had something my father wanted. That was what she was supposed to be for.
But here I was, growing hard because my dick was busy thinking her ass looked temping in the tiny shorts she wore. My brain was telling me she was reliable and loyal, and then the thing in my chest? No. He wasn’t allowed to come play.
“I need to borrow her, Talon. She’ll be back later. Call Knox and Jett to come sit with you.”
Talon pretended to pout but grabbed his phone and did as I said.
“Ronan? What do you?—”
I cut her off with a kiss, thinking if I could just kiss her, I could prove to myself this was some kind of stupid attachment to her little innocent act.
The problem was, that I wanted to deepen the damn kiss.
“Ronan, when you say borrow, do you mean work off some stress outside the gym? Since when did we start lying to each other?” Talon asked before I could stop lying to myself.
