“The only place that dress is going to be acceptable in this apartment.”

I blocked the doorway, locking her in.

She sauntered over to me and damn it. I was hungry.

“Well, disappointing for you. I need to go do something for myself.”

I refused to move even as she tried to slide by me. I looked down at the feel of something cold against my groin.

“Parks. I love you. I really do. But you’re right. I started this whole mess, so now I need to go figure out how to get you out of this. So let me go or live your life like a monk. Either way, I’m fine. I’m sure I can have someone cast your beautiful member into a world class dildo.”

I choked on my spit and moved.

“Fuck, Halle. Is that all I am to you?”

She kept walking and grabbed a pair of heels I hadn’t even noticed.

“Be a doll and take care of Richard while I’m gone.”

I stumbled over something but didn’t look down.

“You better not walk out that door, Halle.”

She laughed. “Or what? You’ll marry some rich bitch?”

I stopped chasing her and stood there in my towel. Fuck me, did she know how to hit my damn buttons, and I didn’t even seem to be able to scratch at hers.

“You damn well know that’s not what I will do,” I said.

She shrugged and kept walking. What the ever-loving fuck? How the hell did she just think she could come and go as she pleased? I had this all planned. I was protecting her. I was going to rescue her.

“Halle, you just can’t listen. All you have to do is sit in one spot. I will get this shit fixed.”

She stopped for a second and I had the dumbass idea that I was getting somewhere.

“Stay in one spot? Hmm. That didn’t seem to do any good, now did it? Here I am without a boyfriend and in the same spot I was in before. On my own.”

I snarled at her. I couldn’t fucking help it.

“I am still yours, Halle, and you know that. You’re just trying to get under my skin. Nothing’s changed.”

I hated the smirk on her face. She was going to just leave.

“Wait, how are you even getting in here? Didn’t my uncle make sure you wouldn’t get back in? He knew you survived when they found the bodies.”

She stopped before the elevator but didn’t hit the button.

“Oh, he did. But, well. Your doormen have sordid pasts and neither of the ones on this shift want their wives to find out.”

I took another step forward.

“Parks. Let me go.”

My palms hurt where my nails were biting into the skin.

“Over my dead body, princess.”

She turned to me finally, and I missed her hit the button this time.
