Halle followed after Emilee.

“Uh, the part—well just all of it. Besides, Emilee needs me.”

My head was starting to hurt from arguing with these two.

“Yeah, Parks. I need support.”

Emilee turned to her dad.

“Daddy. Gee, you look a little uncomfortable. Tragic.”

His face was looking a bit more the shade of a cherry as we all stood here.

“Why is she here?” asked my uncle.

Emilee took another step.

“Oh, dang it. Well, this pair has to be burned, and I really liked them.”

I took a deep breath as I watched Emilee look at Halle instead of me. Damn it. What had I started?

“Emilee. Who gives a shit about your shoes. Fucking release me and talk sense into your fucking cousin. Get that woman out of my office while you’re at it. She ruined the whole wedding. She’s not good for you. Either of you.”

I gripped the knife I had tighter. My other hand I kept loose, to not break what was secured there. I was giving Emilee two options to help her out.

“Oh, Daddy. That’s not very nice, is it? Meet Halle officially. She’s my new bestie. You always said I had terrible taste in people, so I figured I’d go really far down and scrape the bottom of hell.”

I watched my cousin crouch down in front of her dad. Halle moved out of the corner of my eye, and I noticed her strange protective stance over Emilee.

“So, hear me out Daddy. You have two options. You’re not a good man. Parks and Halle? They do bad things to bad people. Let’s think about who’s doing a service for humanity?”

“Gee, Mr. Emilee’s Dad. I didn’t think someone could turn that shade of red. Maybe I should let people live a little longer before I drain the blood?”

I snorted at my fiancée’s joke that truly I didn’t think was a joke at all.

“You ruined everything you fucking bitch. I don’t know what fucking hole you climbed out of, but you’ve corrupted the two heirs that could have amounted to anything.”

That was it. I closed the gap between him and Halle in a couple of steps.

“Don’t you talk to my fiancée that way, Uncle.” I put as much disdain on that last word as I could. I shifted between Halle and him, although she tried to push me aside and I had to fight her.

“Parks, it’s fine. Emilee? If you cut down right where I showed you, he’ll bleed out really slowly. While he’s dying, he can hear every single thing you say.”

My cousin couldn’t be normal, not raised in this family, but that strange clarity that seemed to flash over her eyes scared even me.

“Alright, Daddy. Tell me? Do you want your death to be Edgar Allen Poe or Jane Austen?”

She froze, and I had a fucking second to look between Halle and Emilee. Déjà vu.

“Oh, I think I did that wrong, Halle.”

The woman I loved more than killing grabbed my arm and pushed me aside while I was too busy trying to figure out what the fuck was happening.

“Oh, it’s okay, Emilee. We just need to find your signature thing. Maybe not that. What feels right?”

My cousin smiled, innocence seeping out into something that was more familiar to my sweet little dark princess.

“Alright. How about this? Daddy? Meet Halle. She killed my brother, Cyrus, and now, she’s showed me how to kill you. And although I’m so sorry about this, it just needs to be done. So, Daddy, tell me. Are you sorry?”
