Emilee squealed. Halle and I quickly moved to her as she ran over to a dead body and a chicken.
“Gertie, eww. Spit out his eyeball. You have no idea where that’s been.”
This time I struggled to control my laughter.
“I want to ask why Gertie is here, but with my two favorite psychopaths here? I simply can’t care. But seriously. I had it all handled. I don’t know why no one can believe me.”
At that moment my phone buzzed. I took the damn thing out and snorted.
“Well, better late than never.”
I typed a quick response back and my hand gripped Halle’s arm harder as she tried to move.
“You are not going anywhere until I check out your head. Blackmail works well and leaves a little less of a mess. You two just couldn’t let me do this.”
Halle turned to me and grabbed the sides of my face pulling me down to look at her.
“Parks, wedding planning is a woman’s job. Shh. Emilee and I were so excited to do this. And look. No more pressure from the family.”
She gestured to the blood everywhere. There was no reasoning with her and apparently my cousin. Well, hell.
I tried to part the hair matted in blood over Halle’s head and winced at the cut.
“Alright. We are heading to my guy to patch this up.”
She didn’t protest.
“Halle? Are you okay?”
Her pupils didn’t register the change in light much.
“You go around throwing your knives at anyone who crosses your path. You somehow fight being drugged and choked and a bump on the head has you dazed? Good to know.”
She smirked and then faltered in her steps.
“I’m fine. Just a little woozy. Hey, where’s the fiancé stealing bitch? Did you see I left her alive? Look at me and all this growth.”
I wrapped an arm around her back and the other under her knees and lifted her into my arms.
“Of all the times to think of personal growth and you leave the girl I’m supposed to marry alive?”
Emilee came up next to us with Gertie in tow.
“Crazy, right? I would have chopped of her head all Dracula style and then painted her portrait with her own blood. Well, some of her blood. I like contrast, what can I say.”
A glance between the woman I loved in my arms and my cousin had me questioning a lot. But for once, it wasn’t about my next steps.
“Hey, cousin, how do you feel about keeping this momentum going? That axe becomes you.”
Halle reached for Emilee and pulled her into a hug.
“You aren’t a virgin anymore. I popped that cherry, and it didn’t even hurt.”
Emilee burst into laughter, and I didn’t want to know. Or rather, I didn’t care.
“Alright. Let’s get out of here before the cops come. There will be no footage, that’s certain. All cameras were off before the wedding took place. So, off to get your head checked?”
Halle laughed again. “There is no getting this noodle checked. I’m certifiable. Just ask the last shrink I had. Hm. Or don’t actually, he’s still a little traumatized after me.”
