“Listen, you giant sperm donor machine, I don’t have time for fucktards with shitty-ass pickup lines. I’m emotionally shattered in so many ways that I could rip you a new one ten different ways and get off as you gag on your own fucking throw-up.”
I smiled and closed my eyes.
That would get rid of him and probably get the cops called. Maggie would be okay though and I could come back another day.
I placed a kiss on my fingers and put them up against the headstone.
I was just about to get up when a giant body landed on mine.
“Fuck me. What part of—”
“Shut up, rainbow.”
My eyes flew open this time at the nickname from the lips of the stranger.
Next, a hand covered my mouth, and I looked up into a face I’d not expected to see.
His eyes were shadowed in dark, and I didn’t dare speak.
“Princess, listen to him.”
My eyes darted at the stranger crouching a foot away next to a taller monument to some dead nobody and Parks lying pressed to the ground with his forehead near my own.
When the hell had he had time to follow me?
Why?
And none of those questions were getting answered as the sound of a silenced bullet whizzed through the air and hit Maddie’s headstone.
I didn’t fucking care what was happening, my vision went red.
I turned my gaze in the direction of the bullet and Parks removed his hand.
“Who just called me rainbow? And who the fuck just shot my sister’s headstone?”
His brow knit tight as he glared at me.
“Nate. I trust him. Go with him. I will buy her a new headstone. You just pissed off more people, princess, and I need your ass alive.”
I was too pissed off at the headstone to care about much. Except for that last part.
“Why does it matter? You’re engaged.”
He rolled away, but not before he kissed my forehead.
“Not for long, I hope. Now fucking go.”
Nate grabbed my arm and the only reason I went with was because the stupid asshole who I still loved said to trust him. Fine.
Another bullet rushed by me, and this time I heard more shots. Silenced guns were never truly quiet, and the noise was triggering. I hated guns. Hated that Maggie was once again in the middle.
“Rainbow, we need to go. Parks will never forgive me if you die today.”
I let myself look back in time to see Parks pull a knife from his shit-kickers. He wasn’t in a suit. In fact, it looked like he’d thrown on whatever he could find.
I looked forward as the guy in front of me pulled me down a hill.
“You aren’t just leaving him, are you?”
