How he knew that was beyond me, and I didn’t ask. Some things are better left alone in my experience with Corvus. “You want to be stuck in this realm then?” It came off harsher than I intended, and his head turned my way so he could glare at me. “I didn’t think so.”
“There are some interesting things to see here while we form our plan.” My crow wobbled until he was at the end of the headboard so he could lean sideways to stare at Corvus. “What in the name of all tombstones are you doing?” I lifted my head just in time to see Corvus freeze and shove his front paw under the chest of drawers.
He jerked up and swatted something behind him with the most innocent expression I have ever seen plastered on his face.
“Yes, well, you look like a chicken with a bad dye job.” His bright yellow eyes narrowed on me, daring me to call him out on his behavior.
“I most definitely do not.” Sol screeched, snapping his beak threateningly.
“Cages,” I snapped loudly. “Two of them with spelled doors so you can’t get out unless I let you.”
“Okay, fine.” Corvus plopped on his ass on top of whatever he was hiding as if I didn’t know what he was doing. “I agree with that plan, too. We just need to get the bright-colored freak to agree with it. Don’t worry about her familiars. They’ll play to my tune unless they want me to eat them.”
“No one is eating anybody.” Slicing the air angrily, I sat up so I could have them both in my line of sight. “You just do as I say, and we will be back where we belong in no time, am I clear? I’ll convince Cherry to go along with it. You two stay out of it.”
“Fine.” Sol looked put out, but at least he didn’t give me a hard time.
Corvus squinted at me as if he didn’t believe a word coming out of my mouth. Good thing, too, because I was lying out of my teeth. When he finally nodded gingerly, I had to swallow the sigh of relief. I’d be messing up things on my own, thank you very much. Cherry was free to do what she liked. Not because I thought she would convince me to abandon my plans. Who knew? She might’ve agreed. No, I had a bigger problem than forcing my mouth to stay shut.
I didn’t trust Cherry.
Not as far as I could throw her.
