Glaring as if she would kill me without blinking, she turned her attention to Ash, who surprisingly was not laughing. If anything, he looked even more enamored of her than he’d been before. “What did I miss?”

“Your lips,” I blurted, more laughter bubbling out of me.

Ice shards shot from Ebony’s cold eyes. “Funny, Cherry. So funny nobody laughed.” Pausing to give Ash a smile of gratitude, she focused on me once more. “What did I miss in the chat with Ash here?” She went as far as to bat her eyelashes, but it just looked like she was trying to get something to fall out of her eye.

Blinking fast as if that would clear the vision of flirty Ebony, I frowned. “Ash was just telling me a little about his brother. I was about to let him know what kind of stuff we were actually looking for since it’s from a certain era, but maybe you’d like to do the honors.”

Doe-eyed Ebony looked like she’d just eaten the best chocolate of her life. “I would love to. We would love to find anything relating to Norse Mythology, or anything about the culture like furniture pieces. Things like that. We are doing a whole room in our house dedicated specifically to this, so we are looking for whatever we can find.”

I just sat there. One version of Ebony had gone into that bathroom, and I had no idea who the hell had walked back out. It was kinda freaking me out.

Ash interrupted my thoughts. “You know, he actually does have a lot of that stuff.” He was staring at Ebony while he spoke as if she was the air he needed to breathe. “Our ancestry is from the Scandinavian countries and we both take much interest in anything coming from that part of the world.”

What in Cupid’s name was going on?

Oh well. It didn’t really matter too much because at least she would be in a good mood for sure after whatever they did later. And it would probably be the nasty.

Gosh, I’m just so funny sometimes.

“What do you think, Cherry? Can we meet Ash and his brother tomorrow at his brother’s Antique Store?” Ebony questioned, pulling me out of my thoughts, which were so much more interesting than this dull conversation.

I gave them both a nod. “Sure. Why the heck not. Tomorrow sounds perfect.”

Throwing the rest of my drink down my throat, I stood. “For now, though, I think we should leave because that drink went straight to my head, Ebs. Can you please take me home?”

She nodded, but her eyes were nowhere near me. Standing with her gaze locked on Ash’s, she backstepped. “Okay, well, I’ll see you later, Ash. Until tomorrow.”

Wow. She was actually being kind of … sweet.

Gripping her arm, I pulled her away, and after we grabbed our coats, I prepared for the ride from Hell I was about to be on. The first time was bad enough. Who actually wanted to get on a motorcycle twice?

As soon as we were outside, I stepped ahead of Ebony, but the moment I did, the back of my head stung, and a slap echoed in the night.

Twirling around, I rubbed the sore spot that hurt like a bitch. “What was that for?”

“Don’t ever come near me with makeup again.”

And, with those words, Ebony strolled past me and hopped on her bike. I followed without a word because she didn’t look like she was in a mood to talk anymore. The ride home wasn’t even terrible. I was too busy thinking about my newest challenge in breaking down Ebony’s defenses.

Hell, I would totally do her makeup while she slept.

She had better keep one eye open from now on.
