“We are not done.” Rolling to his feet, he took my hand and pulled me up, too.
I swayed momentarily but found my balance quickly, following behind him out the door. I snatched one more book before I left the room as well, in case Seraphina found us. It wasn’t much, but it’ll do in a pinch, although it weighed a ton. My tongue was stuck to the roof of my mouth, preventing speech. We were down the hole before I could talk without sounding like an idiot.
“We are done, alright.” Lucien kept walking but glanced at me over his shoulder with a smirk. “The end, la fin, konec…however you want to call it. D.O.N.E.”
“Parlez-vous French, ma Muse?” the R’s rolled off his tongue with a lilting tune, and my knees buckled. My ovaries were dancing the samba in joy.
“I should’ve known you’re French.” It sounded like an accusation. Believe you me, the guy didn’t need help in that department or any more points in his favor. His face and body did a great job on their own. “And no, I don’t speak French. I just know a few sentences that can get me in a lot of trouble. I should learn to keep my mouth shut if you haven’t noticed.”
“What kind of trouble?” of course, he would focus on that and nothing else I said.
It took great effort to keep my lips sealed since the words were growing like a tree inside me pressing to be released. I followed him as he moved through the hallway, but I didn’t pay attention to where we were going. It didn’t matter anyway at the time because there was no way I would leave Harmony. After the beating Seraphina had, she’ll kill my friend out of spite even if she did need us. The fork in the corridor where if you turn left, you will end up in the performance area met my eyes, and while Lucien continued on his merry way, I veered off in that direction.
He was behind me before I made it two steps.
“We cannot exit from that side. The wards are still tight around the place.” His fingers wrapped around my upper arm. Electricity slithered up my bicep through my shoulder and stabbed me in the center of the chest.
I gasped.
“Viola?” he had me in his arms, his lips too close for comfort.
“I’m fine.” My voice cracked, and I had to clear my throat. “I’m not leaving Harmony, you can go, and I’ll catch up.” We both knew it was a lie.
Lucien narrowed his eyes and searched my gaze as if he wanted to see all the way to my soul. I wiggled a little reminding him to release me, but he ignored it.
He got me by surprise.
His mouth crashed on mine, and it took my breath away.
Lucien didn’t kiss me.
He devoured me right there in the deathly silent hallway.
I melted into the kiss giving as good as I got until he groaned, not in a pleasant way, and dropped at my feet.
