Lucien

On instinct I ducked down, the instrument sailing over my head. When I didn’t find the female in her room, fear, like I’ve never felt before, choked me and I ran with my nose in the air like a dog following her scent. It only sunk her clutches deeper into my very being roaring at me that she is my mate while I did everything up to that point to ignore it. If I lived another century or two, I never would’ve expected what I found.

She was a vision.

Stupefied, I gawked at the female in front of me, not believing my eyes that she was real.

Whatever tribal dance she was performing in the middle of that hallway was unknown to me and did not take away the fact she was the most beautiful creature I have laid eyes on for as long as I could remember. The bodice of her dress had pushed her tits up so tight every time she flung her arms made me stare, unblinking, sure they’ll spill out of it at any second. My mouth watered, and the fangs were throbbing in my gums to sink them into the bouncy flesh. The light coming from the sconces made her skin look like an unblemished pearl, the dark dress in contrast with the otherworldly creature wearing it. If anyone saw her at that moment, including the humans, they will unmistakably know her to be one of the gods. And when her deep green eyes locked on me, wide and panicked, I had to shuffle my feet because my cock twitched hard against the zipper of my pants.

That’s when she threw her violin at my head.

If I could think instead of leering at her like a fledgling, I would’ve caught the damn thing. As it was, the instrument hit the wall on my side, causing racket when it burst into splinters, the strings vibrating loudly as they snapped from the impact. Time stopped for a very long moment until scraping of furniture over wooden floors snapped everything back into focus. I didn’t think.

I reacted.

Faster than she had time to take a breath, I was next to her, wrapping one arm under her knees the other around her back. Swinging her up to my chest, I was out of the hallway and inside her room, dumping her on the small bed as if she burnt me. Those tits jiggled when the female bounced on the mattress with a loud oomph, and I shook my head to clear it. His was neither the time nor the place to let my dick decide what we were doing. Because if I let it, she’d be naked with her face pressed to the bed while I pounded into her flesh.

“Ouch… you asshole.” She grunted, scrambling to get up and making me more miserable by the second. “Cavemen times died a long time ago you…you…Oh my god.” Blenching, she pressed both her hands over the plump lips and took a step back.

“I know I interrupted your tribal ritual, but I’m sure you can do it again when your life is not in danger.” It was challenging to focus on anything when her chest kept moving up and down fast as she gasped for breath.

“My what?” words muffled through her fingers, she frowned. “You know what? Never mind. How did you move so fast? What are you? Who are you is even more important?” her rapid fire questions made me dizzier than I already was.

“Lucian. Vampire. It is how we move when the need arises.” I answered without thinking in the same manner as she spat her questions at me. Her choked gasp told me I am the fool my brother said I was. “I came to save you,” I added like an idiot at her choked gasp and took a step reaching a hand to grab her if she faints.

She looked like she was about to crumble.

“Stay away from me.” instead of cowering as I expected her to do like any other human female, she actually slapped my hand away. “What the hell do you mean a vampire? Like fang baring, blood sucking thing from books vampire? Or a narcissistic psychopath that sucks the life out of people by gaslighting them day and night?” both her hands landed on her hips, and she glared at me while I stared at my hand she slapped away like it was a foreign thing growing out of my body.

“Because let me tell you, buddy.” Stabbing the space between us with a shaking finger, she clenched her jaw talking through her teeth. “I’ve known my fair share of the narcissistic psychos, and I’ll tell you right now that shit ain’t going to fly with me.” she kept her scowl firmly in place.

If you remembered Moël’s words earlier that night that I am a stubborn idiot, you’d agree with him after my next actions.

I bared my fangs at her like a feral beast.

I wasn’t trying to scare her, in my defense. I just thought at the time that showing her what I am instead of trying to convince her will make things move faster. Especially since I could hear footsteps pounding from behind the closed door coming closer. If I thought she was pale before, I was terribly wrong. Her skin turned as white as a sheet, and her eyes bulged out from her pretty face. The terror in her gaze slew me, and my knees almost buckled from the emotion it provoked deep in my gut. The air filling my nostrils was drenched in the bitter stench of fear that nearly choked me. That’s when it all happened at once.

I reached for her just as the door behind me slammed open, the doorknob hitting the opposite wall with a loud boom. It swung a couple of times hard, back and forward, before embedding itself in the rock. My head swiveled fast so I could look over my shoulder, and my gaze locked on a pair of furious orange eyes that glowed from within with a crazed light. Without giving the witch time to attack, I pounced on her, twisting in midleap and reaching for her neck. My heart punched once against my ribs, and I opened my mouth as wide as I could, aiming my fangs right at her throat. I haven’t seen the magic wilder before, and her features were blurry at the moment as well. Only her eyes were as clear as a blue summer sky in the few split seconds it took for our bodies to collide. Her outstretched arms crossed in front of her in a futile attempt to protect her face and neck.

The female behind me screamed.

Sound louder than anything I’ve heard and so high-pitched it made me dizzy, smashed into my back, pitching me forward. It was followed by a boom as if a bomb was going off that flung me backward like a truck just rammed at the center of my chest. The witch and I both were blasted in opposite directions, hitting the walls and dropping face-first onto the ground. The scream, along with the dreadful sound that burst my eardrums, abruptly stopped. Placing both palms under me, I tried pushing off the floor, but my arms gave out, and I dropped yet again, slapping my cheekbone on the dirt with a groan. It took three tries to get myself on my hands and knees, head hanging low on my chest. At least the witch wasn’t moving from where I could see her from the corner of my eye. She was still in a heap in the hallway.

“…..I killed her.” The female breathed, horror evident in her tone when I could finally hear her. “Oh my god, I killed a person.” Whatever she said before that was lost to never return again.

“She’s not dead.” Squeezing the words through clenched teeth, I kept huffing pained breaths as my body, along with my shredded eardrums, healed.

A moan from the heap in the hallway confirmed my assumptions. Viola was next to me on her knees the next second. It dawned on me that I referred to her by her name for probably the first time, but I was in too much pain to pounder on it.

“You need to get out of here.” She yanked on my shoulders, almost toppling me over in the process. “Now. You need to get out now.”

“You are coming with me.” when she jerked back, I snatched her wrist as fast as a snake. “You can’t stay here, not after this.”

“Let go of me.” flailing, she managed to escape my hold and jumped to her feet. “I’m not leaving Melody and Harmony here. Are you nuts?”

“We can talk later. We must go.” Shoving off the ground, I swayed when the room spun, slapping a hand on the wall to regain my balance.
