“And you think I want to leave?” Stabbing a finger at the male, the demon bared his teeth in his face. “I told you to wait and we’d talk to her in the morning, but oh no. Fates forbid you listen to anyone and hold your temper in check. Not everything can be solved with brute force. Now stew here like a scarecrow among fruit trees instead of getting cozy between her thighs.”

“The two of you were soliciting the female so she would frolic with you both?” A new type of fury made the breath burn in my lungs.

“You can say fuck without a heavenly fire striking you dead, angel.” Tyler sneered, his confusion clearing for the first time. “And no, we didn’t try to just fuck her.”

“You are making things worse. Just shut up.” Vaser lost his patience and clocked the large male in the jaw.

Tyler didn’t move.

“Do that again and I’ll rip your arm of so I can beat you with it.” Dropping his arms to his sides, he took a step closer to the demon. To my surprise, Vaser didn’t blink, just stared at him with a scowl.

Maybe I was still unconscious and this was some delirious dream from blood loss. Nothing else made sense to me, least of all the persistent need to go back to the female. Echo, Vaser had called her. What kind of a creature was she that she could muddle my brain like this?

“I say we stay here hidden where she can’t see us.” The demon kept talking as if someone had put him in charge. “In the morning, after she has had some sleep and calmed down, we will go apologize and find a way to convince her to let us stay.” Tyler glared but didn’t disagree with that plan.

“What other business do you have with the female if not to just get in her pants?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking.

“This is just great,” Vaser spat the words. “Just my luck to get stuck with two dumb fucks for the rest of my life.” His incredulous gaze swung my way. “You really can’t be so stupid that you don’t understand what she is to all of us.”

“I’m done playing your games, demon.” Before he could get away, I had my hand wrapped around his throat and was lifting him off the ground. “Say your prayers because you are going back to Hell.”

“I actually wouldn’t do that if I were you.” It was Tyler who spoke, while the foolish demon was smirking in my face. My fingers flexed around his throat. “Something like that will kill her.”

“Who are you talking about?” Snarling, I shook Vaser like a rag doll.

“Your mate.”

I dropped the demon as if he’d burned me, stumbling back a step. “What did you say?” The words were a breath passing my lips.

“Echo.” Tyler gave me a look so full of pity it almost doubled me over. I felt every drop of blood that was left in me draining as white noise thundered in my ears. “Why do you think none of our powers work on her or against each other, angel? She is our mate, and if you kill one of us, it’ll kill her as well.”

My knees hit the hard-packed ground as the world tilted sideways.
