“You are.”
I drew him in for a longer kiss, then flipped us over. “My turn to show you.”
It took us a while to make it out of bed, but eventually we had to get ready for work. We showered separately, and Sawyer drove us back to the resort. I thought he might drop me off and head home for a few hours. After his late night, he was surely due a break, but he grimaced as we pulled up alongside the dock.
“I should check in with Hudson. He’ll need to know about everything he missed. I just wish I had more good news to share.”
“You did a great job while he was gone, Sawyer. That accident wasn’t your fault.”
“I know.”
I used a boat hook to snag a rope along the dock, and Sawyer cut the motor. Once we’d secured it at the dock, we started toward the resort.
I expected Sawyer to peel off left toward the Swallow Adventures offices, but instead, he reached for my hand.
“Okay if I come to the kitchen to grab some coffee before I talk to Hudson?”
“Yeah, of course.”
He squeezed my hand. “And maybe…I could tell my mom? About us?”
I sucked in a breath. “Really?”
“If you’re okay with that,” he said in a cautious voice.
I tugged us to a stop and grasped his face. “Sawyer, I am okay with anyone and everyone knowing about us. I…I might have told Rick that you were my boyfriend last night.” His eyes widened. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that without checking. He was just making me so angry, and I spoke without thinking and?—”
Sawyer kissed me. Right there on the dock. In plain sight of the resort. He kissed me softly. Sweetly. Sodifferentlyfrom the first time he’d put his mouth on mine.
But just like that day, my heart went haywire. This kiss was just as cataclysmic. Maybe even more. Because Sawyer wasn’t kissing me out of frustration or anger—or even confused desire.
He was kissing me with love.
“Call me boyfriend anytime you want.” He paused. “But let me tell my mom before we tell anyone else. Or I’ll really be in trouble.”
“Too late,” Brooks said with a chuckle.
We spun to see him and his adorable grandmother out for a morning stroll.
“I’ll keep your secret for another minute or two,” Brooks said. “I don’t know if you can trust Grandma though. So, you better hurry.”
Grandma Kitty slapped his arm. “Oh, Brooks, don’t tease them!”
He grinned. “But it’s so much fun.”
“You just like not being in the hot seat for a change,” Sawyer said.
“Damn right.” He winced. “Sorry, Grandma.”
Kitty’s eyes twinkled. “You’ve got nothing on the old gals at Silver Cove Assisted Living. Don’t you worry.”
I grinned. “They’re a racy bunch, huh?”
Kitty giggled, cheeks coloring. “I couldn’t even repeat some of the things they say.” She shook her head. “You should have heard them after they saw Brooks and Skylar together. My, my. I had to threaten to reveal all their secrets if theyeverput those images in my head again.”
Brooks cringed, face going red. Oh, this was good. Brooks was so self-assured that I’d never seen him squirm. Even when I’d run a sunset dinner cruise where Brooks took Skylar on a romantic date, he’d had an aura of confidence about him.
Like he knew he was in the right place with the right man.
