Vass throws their arms around me.
“This is so much fun,” they say.
“Thank you for inviting me!”
Checking In
KAI:Are you okay?
MATT:Yeah.
KAI:You sure?
MATT:Yeah.
KAI:Come on. Be honest.
MATT:Why don’t you just say what you wanna say.
KAI:Fine. You weren’t very friendly to Vass today.
MATT:I knew you were gonna say that.
KAI:So, what’s your problem with them?
MATT:I don’t have a problem with them. But I’ve never met anyone like Vass before. I didn’t know what to say.
KAI:You could’ve at least said “well done” a few times. I’ve told you lots about them. You knew what to expect.
MATT:It’s one thing to hear about them and to see people like them online, but when they turned up wearing that tank top and rainbow leggings, it was a bit much for me.
KAI:Look at how friendly Spider Girl and Obi were.
MATT:Of course you’d think your posh new boyfriend behaved perfectly.
KAI:I said SG *and* Obi. I’m not comparing you to Obi. I just hoped you’d be nicer to Vass.
MATT:I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you or Vass. Did Vass say something?
KAI:No, they didn’t say anything, but I didn’t bring it up. I didn’t wanna draw any attention to how weird you were being.
MATT:So, Vass didn’t say they thought I was rude?
KAI:No, they didn’t say anything about you. They said they had fun.
MATT:Okay. Good. I’m sorry I was weird. I’m glad Vass had fun. I’ll make more of an effort with them next time.
KAI:You’d better.
MATT:I will. I promise.
KAI:Okay. Good.
MATT:It’s just hard for me to see someone so comfortable with themselves.
KAI:I know. But it’s still no excuse to be rude.
MATT:I know. I really am sorry.
