Her words had me choking on my own saliva, and I beat a fist against my chest.
Smug satisfaction sounded in my wife’s voice. “What? You said you didn’t like it when I called it an appendage.”
Lord, I was in for one hell of a ride with this woman.
Couldn’t fucking wait.
Chapter 8
Tripp
Sinceitwasalreadydark, we decided to hunker down for the night rather than drive the four and a half hours to Abbyville, where the rodeo team was stationed for the weekend.
Stopping at the first motel we came across, I paid in cash for the night and retrieved Penny from the truck. Fitting the key in the lock of our assigned room, I pushed the door open before hoisting Penny into my arms, smiling at her delighted squeal as I stepped across the threshold.
She toyed with the hair at the nape of my neck. “Look at you being all romantic.”
Stealing a quick kiss, I replied, “It’s tradition.”
When I set her down and got a good look at the space, I groaned.
Penny smoothed her thumbs over the corners of my lips, which had turned down in a frown. “What’s wrong?”
I shook my head in disgust. The shame of having failed her on our first night married settled like a rock in my gut. “You deserve so much better than this dingy motel room on yourwedding night.”
Her palms cupped my cheeks, keeping my gaze locked on her. “You think I care about what the room looks like?”
“Penny,” I said her name on a sigh. “I wish I could give you more.”
“You listen to me right now, Tripp Sullivan.” Her voice took on a commanding tone. “You’ve given me everything. Where we spend tonight doesn’t matter. So long as I have you.”
Grunting, I kept my mouth shut, not wanting to argue the point further—even though I disagreed—and ruin our evening.
“Now, if that’s settled . . .” It wasn’t, but my hands were tied; we were hundreds of miles from a city with nicer lodging. “I need to tell you a secret.”
I reared back, and her hands fell away from my face, coming to rest on my shoulders. “I thought we didn’t keep secrets from each other.”
“Minus the one where we both hid our feelings from each other for our whole lives.”
“Right. Minus that one,” I agreed.
Penny’s eyes sparkled as she teased, “That was kind of a big one.”
I blew out a heavy breath. “Yeah, I know.”
“Could’ve saved us a ton of time getting to this point,” she pressed.
The thread on my patience snapped. “You gonna tell me this secret or what?”
Flashing me a wicked grin, she rose on her tiptoes to whisper in my ear, “I’ve always fantasized about riding a certain cowboy.”
Her breathy voice, along with the picture her words painted, had my cock thickening, pressing painfully against my fly, and I couldn’t stifle a groan.
“Oops. I think I woke up your friend.” Her lower lip was pinned beneath her teeth when she pulled back to gauge my reaction.
My chest heaved as her hand plucked the hat from my head to situate it atop hers. You didn’t grow up in the country and not know the rules regarding a cowboy’s hat. My girl knew exactly what she was doing. And it was threatening all my self-control.
“Is that what you want, Lucky?” I rasped.
