These bastards are gonna pay. “They don’t know who they’ve fucked with.”

Tice and Kane share a grin as I continue to mutter under my breath.

“Not glad they are harassing you, but gotta admit this is fun. We’ll fix their asses good,” Kane says as he lifts the console for the drone and climbs off the tailgate of my truck.

Before he’s out of earshot, I call out to him. “What’s the ETA on the police?”

“Seven minutes.”

“Perfect,” I line up the sights on my scope on a hornet’s nest. “This should get their attention. But I don’t have time for this shit. I’ve got important things to do.”

Tice chuckles as he lifts a pair of binoculars to his eyes, watching the group of men creep around in the trees, trying to figure out where the water cannons are going to aim next.

He asks, “Like explaining to us how long you’ve been stalking that girl?”

“Stalking?” I scoff as I adjust my rifle. “I was doing research. I wasn’t planning on acting on it. But she seemed…nice. And she’s so fucking beautiful it hurts.”

“Dude…” he says through a guffaw of laughter. “You weren’t going to ask her out because she’s too young. To normal for men like us. I know the drill.”

I exhale, quiet my body until I’m nothing more than a heartbeat, and pull the trigger, cutting the hornet’s nest down.

It lands right in the middle of the clusterfuck of tweaked out idiots who Jeremy’s boss sent to my property.

While chaos erupts under the trees, I turn my attention back to Tice who is enjoying the show as much as I am.

“I’ll send you an invite to the wedding.”

He punches me in the shoulder. “So confident.”

“Yep.” I lean against the truck as Kane buzzes the intruders with the monstrous drone I just added to my toolkit. “It’s already a done deal. She’s the ONE.”

“So that moving truck out in front of your house?” Tice continues to dig.

“What about it? That’s me moving in her belongings.”

“Did you ask first?”

“No.”

Tice shakes his head and stows the binoculars back into their case. “Was she surprised.”

“Sure, but not as surprised as she’s going to be when she finds out that I already bought a diamond for her a while back.”

“Wasn’t going to act on your urges, huh?”

“You’re a fucking SEAL. You know this, it never hurts to be prepared.”

We both turn when the sheriff’s truck bounces through the ditch and into the field. He skids to a stop next to my truck, throwing dirt into the air.

When he climbs out, the lean, hard-faced man tosses me an envelope. “Deed’s in there to Celeste’s grandmother’s house. I had the locks changed.”

Like clockwork, I catch the keys he tosses.

“Thanks, man.” I give his hand a hearty shake. “Always good working with you. Glad that all these bastards will be off the street for good now.”

“I owe you a big thanks. We’ve been chasing our asses playing Whack-A-Mole with them for months.”

He moves away, talking on his radio as more deputies pull in beside his vehicle.
