There’s a weird sensation inside of me as I wait.

Those can’t be butterflies in my chest. No. It’s impossible. SEAL’s don’t get fucking butterflies.

But then she says my name again. Soft as a gentle wind. Husky as sin, with telling heat climbing up her delicate face.

“Chase.”

Growling, I roll her below me.

NINE

Celeste

Oh my.

Oh my goodness.

“What…what are you doing?” I stammer, my words vaporous, not to mention the ridiculousness of what I just asked. It’s clear what he’s doing.

Chase buries his face in my neck, rubbing his scruff up and down, then across my jaw, a low growl in his throat. “I’m losing my mind for you, beautiful. Needed to feel you under me at long last.”

Uh… “I still can’t believe you’re losing your mind over me.”

Clearly it’s me. No one else is here. No one else is getting the Chase treatment.

And a treatment it is. This feels like total ownership.

Is that even a thing?

“Yes,” he quietly says, tone raspy, breath warm against my skin. “Only you.”

“I have no idea how to do this.” Panic is a thousand hummingbird wings in my veins. “Didn’t you hear me earlier? I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to men...”

“A man, one. Me.”

God, how I like the sound of that.

“Do you always speak with such total conviction?”

“Yes. Why would I say something I wasn’t sure of?”

Huh? I am sure I’m blinking like Bambi. “Be-because everyone does?”

He nuzzles my temple, dragging his mouth over my skin. “And I heard you loud and clear, honey. I know what I’m doing so you don’t have to worry your pretty little mind about anything when it comes to us.”

Those masculine lips are sexy as sin already, but when he tucks one side back into a grin, his expression is smoldering at a level I’ve never seen before.

Part of my brain breaks.

He continues to melt it. “If you feel safe with me…if you want to give yourself to me, I’ll teach you all the ways a man can love a woman.”

Wait. Is this real?

But my disbelief fades considerably when he strokes the callous of his thumb over my cheek. “You’re so gorgeous. So sweet. My whole mission now is to keep you safe.”

Ding. Ding. Ding.

Some kind of alarm goes off in my head, only it’s not really a scary alarm, it’s more like the kind when you win a prize on a game show.
