When he doesn’t reply, I moan, ‘God, you’re gonna make me say it, aren’t you?’ I gaze up at the blue universe. ‘I had my first vaginal orgasm.’

‘Oh, Jesus, fuck,’ he mutters with a bewildered laugh, splaying a hand over his face.

‘What?’ I squint at him, stifling a smile. ‘Don’t be such a prude. You’re my best friend; I need to be able to tell you this stuff, even if you don’t have a—’

He flings out a hand. ‘Don’t say it.’ He then drapes an arm over his eyes. I marvel, with adoration and wonder, at how easy it is for me to make Zac Jameson blush and squirm. It might be my superpower.

One of his eyes peeks out at me from beneath his bicep. ‘So,Felixhad the honour, huh?’

‘Why do you have to say his name like that? It’s notFelix, it’s … Felix.’ The second time I say the name, I mimic the breathy sound of a woman on heat.

Zac jabs his forefinger into his mouth, pretending to gag. I toss another stick at him, and it bounces off his springy hair.

‘I guess “Felix” and I have something in common then,’ he murmurs without looking at me.

‘You’ve both given me a vaginal orgasm?’ I deadpan.

Zac groans. ‘Notyou.Women.’

‘Women?’ I sit up on my elbow and offer him a super-impressed brow raise at his use of the plural.

‘Yup.’ The confidence in his tone makes me realise he’s being serious.

Whoa. OK.

I glance away, trying to get the unwanted image out of my head of Zac making a woman come with just his—

‘All right, we’re done here,’ I blurt, climbing to my feet.

‘We are?’ he replies as I scrape twigs and blades of grass off my jeans.

‘I’ve got a date with Felix.’

I totally made that up because this conversation got awkwardfast.

But Zac doesn’t even reply. He just silently trails me out of the park with his hands stuffed into his pockets while I try to calculate exactly when talking to my best friend about sex became weird. And what the hell I can do to change that.

CHAPTER 30

Today

The entire drive home, all I can think about is how Zac’s hand is resting on his thigh beside mine, and if I reached for his fingers and brought them to my lips, what would he do? Would he shrink away and stick with the established course oflet’s think this through? Or would he ask me to pull over on the side of the road and tug me onto his lap, closing this unbearable distance between us?

After we’ve parked, he trails me up the path to his front door and reaches past my shoulder to push his key into the lock, the ridges of his chest brushing against my upper back. I cough to hide my shaky breaths as he waits like a gentleman for me to enter the house first.

OK, what now? We go to our respective beds and try to ignore the fact that, twenty minutes ago, you told me that all you can think about is being with me?

‘You’re working tomorrow, right?’ he asks, kicking off his shoes at the door.

‘Right.’

I bound over to the sink and gulp down a glass of water, occupying my mouth so I don’t have to think of something to say.

‘Damn,’ he says lightly. ‘Thought that maybe, now we’re home, you could help me drink some of this whisky that a cute girl bought me for my birthday.’

A delighted chuckle bubbles out of me as I twist to face him, leaning against the counter.God, Josie, be more obvious.

‘I can do a whisky,’ I say, settling onto a stool with my hands clasped like I’m waiting for my bar order. I really need to stop staying up late drinking on school nights, but this is absolutely not going to be that night. No force on this planet could drag me away from this guy right now.
