The black body-con dress leftverylittle to the imagination. Lizzy’s boobs were pushed up to her chin, and the skirt barely covered her ass. But the sleek, simple design of the dress managed to make her look classy. It was perfect.
She walked into Weldon Brewery at nine thirty sharp. Several heads turned to watch her progress toward the bar, and she was tempted to jump behind the nearest wooden beam. She wanted Jack’s attention—and ungentlemanly thoughts—not anyone else’s. But she donned her badass lawyer persona to overcome her shyness and didn’t let her steps falter.
“Whoa, Unni.” Tara whistled when she sat down at the bar. “You look stunning. Do you have a hot date tonight?”
“Thank you,” Lizzy said instead of giving in to the urge to say,Oh, this old thing?“I sure hope so.”
“Intriguing.” Tara arched her eyebrow but seemed to be fighting a smile.
Lizzy twisted around to scan the dining hall for Jack but was distracted by the high-pitched laughter of several women. When she turned toward the sound, she found the man she was looking for being fawned over by a tableful of women. Well, three women, but that was more than enough.
He murmured something wearing a crooked grin, and the women erupted into laughter again. How dare he act so charming.Lizzy had seen enough, so she spun back to the bar and said with a hint of acid, “Someone is earning his tip today.”
“Jack is a favorite with the customers.” Tara smiled while expertly filling mugs of beer.
“I can see that,” Lizzy said sullenly while drawing little circles on the bar with her finger.
She gave up trying to ignore the scene behind her and glanced over her shoulder. Jack was walking toward the bar with the women staring after him. When one woman’s eyes dipped to check out his ass, Lizzy understood for the first time what seeing red meant. She shot to her feet—with a vague plan to tackle someone—at the same moment Jack spotted her.
“Lizzy?” His face turned stark with hunger as he perused her body.
The red filter fell from her eyes as she witnessed her plan working. He wanted her, and she couldn’t have cared less about those women. All they got was a measly crooked smile when she got this searing, wild-eyed stare from him. He reached her side in three long strides and planted his hand on her lower back as though he couldn’t help but touch her.
“Hey, Jack.” Her voice was husky and seductive, and she wasn’t even trying. It was like a primal instinct.Hot man. Must seduce.“I was hoping we could go out for a drink when you get off.”
Jack didn’t answer. His eyes were glued to her girls, and his fingers dug into her back. She gently tipped his chin up so he would look at her. “Drinks? After work?”
“Yes,” he growled.
“Oh, for chicken’s sake,” Tara said. “Go, Jack. Now. I’ll cover your tables.”
“No, that’s okay.” Lizzy tore her gaze away from him. “I can wait.”
“Look at him. He’s in no condition to work.” Tara’s cheeks were pink. “And I don’t want to watch my older brother undress a woman with his eyes. Even if that woman is you, Unni. I’m really happy that he’s your hot date, but you need to take him with younow.Seriously.”
“Jack?” Lizzy prompted. His eyes had dropped to her cleavage again.
He raised them to her face with effort. “Yes?”
“Do you want to leave now?” She bit the inside of her cheeks to hold back her smile.
“Yes,” he said, but made no move to leave her side.
“Do you need to get your keys or anything?”
“Yeah.” He blinked rapidly. “I’ll be right back. Thanks, Tara. I owe you one.”
“Don’t worry about it.” Tara covered her face with both her hands. “Just go.”
Jack grinned rakishly and winked at Lizzy before he hurried to the back of the brewery. Lizzy almost swooned.
“Is he gone? Is it safe to look?” Tara asked from behind her hands.
“It’s safe.” Lizzy laughed sheepishly when Tara looked up. “Sorry about that little display. We’re still getting used to this dating thing.”
“Don’t worry about it. To be honest, I think it’s adorable. Jack literally could not take his eyes off you.”
Lizzy flushed with equal parts embarrassment and pleasure.
