“I can’t believe you insisted on bringing the coco de mer home, though.”

“And why not? We might be the only couple in England to have one. And how could I leave it behind? It has such fond memories attached to it.”

“As do thunderstorms,” she added, blushing.

He chuckled. “Plenty of those in England, too.”

Caro shook her head. “We might have missed Christmas, but we’ll be home in time for the twins to make their debut in society. I wonder what they’ll make of the Ton.”

Max gave her a loving squeeze. “The real question is, what will the Ton make of the twins? They’re going to cause chaos, I guarantee.”

“At least they’ll have an older sister who’s a duchess.”

“A scandalous duchess.” Max turned her in his arms. “A desert island duchess.”

Caro glanced over her shoulder and was relieved to find the remaining crew members had all discreetly found engrossing things to do elsewhere. She lifted her face for a kiss.

“Well, if I’m a desert island duchess, then that makes you my desert island duke,” she smiled. “I hope this won’t be our last adventure together, Your Grace.”

Max kissed her soundly. “It won’t be. I have a feeling our adventures are only just beginning, my love.”
