“Yeah?” I say over my shoulder. Did we not just cover the bases? I have no idea what else there’s left to say, but her face reads confused…or constipated.

“If you and Terrence kissed and made up…where is he?”

Here we go.

“He’s still in bed. I came up here.”

Her eyes go wide. “Pleasetell me that’s a joke.“ She folds over with laughter. I see tears, actual tears.

My face scrunches. “What’s so funny? I thought it was best to come back to my room to think without distractions.”

More laughter.

My thumb hits my chest. “What?”I left his room, not the state.

Emma deadpans.

“Should I ask him for permission before I pee too?”

Silence.

“You act like we won’t see each other as soon as he wakes up.”

More silence.

I roll my eyes. “This is no big deal, Em. I need to shower.”

The doors close behind me when I enter my room. She’s right. This will start an argument.

“It’s not a big deal,” I say to myself as I turn on the shower tap. This place is amazing, but the water will give you second-degree burns if you aren’t careful.

Terrence knows we can’t just snap our fingers and erase our problems. I don’t care how spectacular the sex is. It doesn’t work like that. If we really want to give this a go, we can’t run away from the problems that broke our marriage.

Like you ran away from his bed?

“It’s not the same thing,” I say to no one.

Or is it?

Chapter 26

Terrence

Iwake to a door closing. My room is far from the front to hear the hallway, but I catch it. Damn I’m hungry. I wonder if Justice wants to order room service or go down to one of the restaurants for a late bite. Then I’ll spread her legs for dessert.

Speaking of which, where is she?

Her side of the bed is nothing but wrinkled sheets with a few dents. She acts shy, but my wife is a vixen when she wants to be. I didn’t expect us to have sex, at least not so soon, but I make no apologies for it. I missed her and every inch of her body.

My voice cracks when I attempt to call out to her. Nothing. There’s no sign of her when I lift my head to scan the room. She’s not in the bathroom because the light is off.Where the hell is she?

Now I’m awake.

“Justice?”

Still nothing.

I rip off the sheets and stand. Her clothes are gone.
