‘Something like that,’ she whispered. The weight of what they’d done fell over her like a heavy blanket. Whatever it was between them had amplified, morphed into something beyond recognition, beyond sanity.

Talemir carefully withdrew from her, the evidence of his pleasure now dripping down Drue’s thighs.

She didn’t care. Instead, she watched his face, those hard lines and strong jaw working through an array of emotions she couldn’t pinpoint. She gripped his chin with her fingers, as he had done to her, and kissed him again.

Talemir

There had always existed a magic to make the sanest man go mad, and it was not shadows and darkness, but love: deep, unending love.

As Drue kissed Talemir, slowly and thoroughly, he realised that.

He loved her and all that she was.

And what she was… was everything.

She was the glowing beacon in the harbour of obsidian.

She was the flicker of flame that met his shadows.

And he loved her. He’d suspected it before. He’d danced around the edge of the feeling, but now… now he knew.

As her tongue brushed his, as her hands gently trailed along his skin, the words bubbled at his lips, demanding to be spoken.

Instead, he kissed her back, his cock already stirring again as he lifted her carefully from the barrel, taking her to the pile of furs that some watchman had left behind and laying her down.

Talemir lay beside her, unable to let her go, and slowly, the world came back to him. Melodies and the revelry from the warehouse still drifted up to them. He had no notion of the hour, no concept of how long they’d been away from the others, and he didn’t care. All he cared about was the woman in his arms, the woman who hadn’t feared his darkness, but embraced it.

‘Are you alright?’ he asked her, unable to stop himself from noting her flushed cheeks and the staccato rise and fall of those glorious breasts, as though she hadn’t yet recovered from him. He hoped she never would.

A slow smile spread across that beautiful face. ‘I am. Are you?’

Talemir felt fragile, as though she had shattered him into a million shards and pieced him back together anew. He felt raw and alive, terrified and euphoric all at once.

‘I am,’ he said.

I’m yours,he’d told her. He’d practically offered her his dark heart on a silver platter.

Looking at her now, still naked among the furs, he’d do so again in a heartbeat. He’d do many things again in a heartbeat.

He propped himself up on his elbow, his leaking cock already hard, throbbing for her.

Her eyes dipped there, and a smirk tugged at her lips. ‘Ready again so soon?’

‘You’ve clearly never fucked a Warsword,’ he told her.

‘I’m happy to be educated.’

‘Thank the Furies.’ He hooked her leg over his hips and fitted himself to her again, their breaths mingling in the crisp night.

Drue’s gaze went wide, and she cried out as Talemir slid home, as his hands dug into her backside and pulled her down over his length.

He drank in the sight of her lips parted in pleasure as he moved inside her, the sensation of her utterly intoxicating. Bringing his mouth to her nipple, he bit down, causing her to gasp and grab a fistful of his hair.

Pain pricked at his scalp, but it only amplified the silken heat of her around him.

Talemir moaned, increasing his pace, thrusting into her again and again.
