The peculiarity of that, mixed with the need to see if my baser instincts were leading me in the right direction, had me leaning in closer to him to take a sniff. I took in a deep breath.
Nothing.
A deep, dark chuckle had the hair on the back of my neck rising. Heat flushing my cheeks.
"Did you just sniff of me Angel? Wondering if that perfume you were looking for came from me are you?" He turned towards me, shooting me a wink.
Embarrassment dosed with a healthy mixture ofwhat the fuck had I been thinking, warred in me.
"Um, uh...." I stammered, unsure what to say to possibly begin to get myself out of this mess. How does one explain sniffing another, especially if the other doesn't know about wolves. I hadn't gotten human, or wolf scent from him. Was he using scent blockers?
"It’s okay preacher, come along. Let's go sit somewhere a bit more private shall we? Hey - Kenz can you bring us a menu, and bring Angel here a ginger ale, and another shot?" He stood, grasping me firmly by the elbow.
Electricity shot through me, enveloping me in a cocoon of need. Desire to be near him flooding me.
"Um, yeah okay." I managed to blurt out. Sounding half crazy.
"Perfect." He led me over towards the back where a set of booths were arranged near one another, with dividers in between for privacy.
I slid into a booth, my eyes darting back and forth between him and the room. Where was I supposed to look? I suddenly felt angsty, like something within me was clawing to get out. To befree. To fight for its place. Need, aching, burning desire rising in my chest.
"Calm down, Angel. Everything is alright." His voice was honey smooth, and my gaze shot to his brown eyes. He smiled at me, the effect quite like a bolt of lightning.
"Alright?"
"Of course. Are you feeling like you can't get a scent from me at all?" He quirked an eyebrow as though he hadn't just pegged one of my revolving questions in one sentence. "I have a supplier a few towns over. I use one of the best scent blockers known to wolf kind."
I relaxed in my seat, the sudden bout of anxiety beginning to loosen. At least he was a wolf. My shoulders no longer feeling tight like a livewire. "Oh, why do you use scent blockers?"
Of course, many wolves preferred to use scent blockers. Especially omega's, but this man was clearly not an omega. Nobody would ever mistake him for one either -- even if being a male omega was a thing.
"To keep other rival wolves from scenting me. I tend to hang around in some darker, seedier places such as the one we are in right now where multiple packs hang out. Sometimes things do not go so well, when other alphas scent me out."
So he was an alpha then. Of course he was, what else could a man that looked like him be. He had muscles for days. I swallowed dryly, choosing my next words carefully. "What pack are you from?"
"I am the pack alpha of pack Blackrock. This is our territory here, but this bar is open to all." He said the words, just as Kenzie set the order on the table.
"Would you care for a burger, or some fries, Kieran?" The bartender asked, his eyes glued to the man across from me.
Irrational jealously poured from my very bones. "He will tell you what he wants when he wants it." I spat out, unable to stop myself. What the hell is wrong with me?
Kenzie took a few steps backward, his gaze shooting between the two of us. “oh.. um… uh… “ he stammered.
“You know what I get round here Kenz, just grab it for me if you would, beta. Please bring preacher here the same. Also 2 peanut butter milkshakes.” He shot a glance over at me, his eyes dark and filled with something I couldn’t place my finger on.
“You allergic?”
Allergic to what? I was allergic to that man being anywhere near my table.
Mine. Mate. Go away.
The voice of my wolf was growing increasingly loud and insistent. I took in a deep breath, attempting to control my words. “I’m not allergic to a goddamn thing except this asshole who won’t leave you alone. If you wanted something you’d have asked for it.”
“Hey. I did ask for it. Calm down, he’s my first beta. He knows what I need, and he will provide it for me.”
Provide? Need? Was he suggesting what I thought he was suggesting? A low growl sounded around the room. Full of warning, and possession. Uneasy, I glanced around, the hairs on the back of my neck standing at full attention. Who was growling?
Kieran’s eyebrows shot clear to his hairline, and he cleared his throat. “It’s alright omega. Calm down. Kenz isn’t near me.”
