I blink my eyes open, feeling like I have the worst hangover. I groan. We didn’t even drink. I slowly try to sit up, but soon flop back down. What the fuck is happening? I lay there for a moment longer before trying again. This time I roll to my side and lean up a little at a time. I look around the room and see its empty. I frown, confused. I move slightly and hear a crinkle of paper. I look down, seeing a piece of folded paper, and as I open it up and read it, dread settling in.
“FUCK!” I yell. I move quickly, and as soon as I go to stand, my legs give out and I collapse to the floor. “Shit, shit,” I curse. “Eden! Betsy! Bernie!” I yell as loud as I can.
The door swings open and Betsy storms in, her gun poised and ready to shoot. She looks down at me and frowns, seeing me on the floor. “Why are you down there?” she asks, confused.
“Mor fucking roofied me!” I snap.
“Oh!” Betsy snorts a laugh.
“It’s not fucking funny,” I growl.
Eden comes barrelling through the door with her gun aimed. “What happened?” she asks, looking around and checking the bathroom for intruders.
“Mor roofied Nyx,” Betsy snorts.
Eden laughs. “What did you do to piss her off? I thought you were fucking each other’s brains out?” she asks.
“Tell me about it. You’re lucky I heard you. I’ve been sat with noise cancelling headphones on so I didn’t have to listen to you two going at it,” Betsy says with disgust.
“Jesus fucking Christ, will you just help me up?” I sigh.
“Ooohhh, pissy much?” Eden says sarcastically as her and Betsy walks towards me. They both bend down and help me to sit on the bed. “Fuck dude, easy on the carbs,” Eden groans.
“Fuck you,” I say, flipping her off. “Read this.” I hand her the note, and Eden takes it and holds it for her and Betsy to read. They reach the end and look at each other, their faces going soft. “Awww. It’s finally happened,” Eden coos. “I knew it would. Love always wins out,” she sighs.
I pinch the bridge of my nose, feeling my head pounding. “She’s gone after fucking Henry on her own,” I seethe.
Eden and Betsy both look at me like I’ve lost my mind. “We can read,” Betsy snaps. “You know this is Mor, right?” she asks.
“I know she can stand up for herself and take a man down, but she has no fucking idea what she’s going into,” I explain.
Eden shrugs. “She knows. She has trained and fought people like Henry her entire life. Since she could walk and talk, her mom taught her how to say no before she said Mama. Her entire life has been about fighting men like Henry. Don’t underestimate her,” Eden states.
“I’m not, but you’ve got to agree she shouldn’t be going in alone,” I point out.
Eden gives Betsy a side glance. Betsy sighs. “Fine. You know we will get there, and it will be for nothing. Just like it always is.”
“Remember, he held her prisoner just a couple of weeks ago,” I point out.
“Yeah, but that was different. She was in the middle of nowhere. If she got out, she wouldn’t have anywhere to go.” Eden shrugs.
“But how do you know where she is now?” I ask.
Betsy pulls out her phone and turns it around to face me. “She’s at the docks,” she says as a dot flashes on a map, showing her location.
“Right, let’s go,” I say as I try to stand. I wobble on my feet before falling back on the bed.
“Easy there, Bambi.” Eden laughs. “Betsy, get the antidote,” Eden orders.
“Fine, but you can explain all this to Bernie,” she says over her shoulder as she walks out.
“So, how did you get her to cave? You fuck the love out of her? Held her at gun point? Pfft. Who am I kidding? She would have let you shoot her before admitting she’s in love,” Eden snorts.
I frown at her. “Aren’t you the tiniest bit concerned that she is out there facing him on her own?” I ask.
She shrugs. “I trust her. Knowing Mor, she’s probably got a couple of grenades on her.” Eden shrugs.
Betsy walks back in with a syringe with a really long needle. “Mor raided storage. Three grenades are gone,” she states, biting off the protective plastic. “Okay, drop your trousers and bend over,” Betsy orders.
