“How the fuck can you hide shit from the CIA? They have access to all areas,” I state, completely blown away that this innocent looking woman is capable of all this.

“Pfft, please. Your IT people are basic trained in college. They know nothing,” she says, turning her laptop around to face me. She hits play on the space bar and a video starts playing.

Sat on three chairs is Penny, Josh, and Tim. Fuck. Henry walks in front of the camera. “Hello, Nyx. I invited your friends here to spend some quality time with me,” he sneers, holding a gold-plated blade in his hand. “Your friends broke easily. I’m almost disappointed in the CIA. They are clearly letting their standards slip.” He presses the blade next to Tim’s neck, a trickle of blood running down along the gold blade. “I will cut to the chase. For you, I would be willing to make a deal. Your life for these three. Simple.” He grins.

I grit my jaw. Tim has a wife and kids, and Penny’s sister was taken by Henry. This has been her mission, her personal revenge for years.

“You have twenty four hours to respond,” Henry finishes, then disconnects.

“When was that sent?” I ask.

“Twelve hours ago,” Betsy states.

I exhale, my mind working a mile a minute. I can’t leave them to die because of me, but if I die, then Penny, Josh, and Tim can report Morrigan and the club. If they die, then Henry wins, but Morrigan and the club are safe.

“Fuck!” I roar, jumping to my feet, holding my head in my hands.

As I pace, I hear footsteps approaching. “He’s gone. He’s gone!” Morrigan yells, panic and hurt in her eyes as she rounds the corner, wrapped in her bed sheet. Her eyes land on me, and relief floods her expression before she quickly masks it to indifference. I walk towards her, but she backs off, looking past me to Eden. “Maybe leave a note that you’ve released our prisoner,” she snaps before turning on her heel back to her room. I look over to Eden, who is grinning like a loon.

“What’s got you smiling like that?!” I ask, confused.

“She’s got it bad.” Eden’s grin widens.

“So bad,” Betsy adds.

“I called it!” Bernie calls out, raising her hand.

“What do I do?” I ask them.

“In regard to what? Henry or Mor?” Bernie asks.

“Both!” I state.

“As for Henry, that’s on you, but Mor, you need to pounce on that before the festering anger settles in too deep and she shuts you out completely,” Bernie states.

“Like she did to Nathanial.” Eden nods.

“Who the fuck is Nathanial?” I ask.

“Lap dog. He got a bit attached to Mor. He was the one that beat your ass,” Eden explains.

“Right, that’s a point. Where is he now?” I ask, feeling like I could do with kicking someone’s ass to work out this tension.

“Left. Not seen or heard from him since Mor told him to get out,” Bernie states. “That’s a point. We will have to put the word out that we are on the lookout for a new lap dog,” she adds.

I shake my head. “I need to see Mor,” I state before walking off.

“Good luck! You’ll need it!” Eden yells after me.

Pushing the door open, I step inside to an empty room. I frown, looking around. “Mor?” I call out before I check the bathroom. Nothing. I walk back down the hall. “I can’t find her,” I state.

Bernie is about to answer but is silenced when the sound of a speeding bike rings out. “Ah, she’s gone out the back way. She’s gone to Devil’s Drop,” Bernie states.

“Here.” Eden throws me her keys. “Scratch her and I will deliver you to Henry myself,” she threatens.

I nod and run out the shed. I spot a lime green Kawasaki Ninja and jump on it without a helmet and speed out of the shed in pursuit of Morrigan. I spot her up ahead. I push the bike to its maximum, speeding and swerving in and out through traffic. Cars honk their horns as I cut in and out. I am slowly gaining on her, and as she takes a sharp right at the lights. I follow, not bothering to check what cars are coming. I hear screeching tyres behind me, but I don’t look back. My focus, my only goal is her.

She slows and turns into Devil’s Drop. I slow and follow her, and as she rides her bike down the dirt track right until the end, I sigh relived as she stops, killing her engine. I rev the bike, letting her know I’m coming up behind her.
