Yes, I have.
Jojo:
I wish I’d read it before I met Theo. I was only fourteen, so maybe I would have ignored it, but maybe I wouldn’t have. You never know.
Emma:
Did you meet at school?
Jojo:
Honestly, I’m not sure. He was in and out of school, always getting suspended. All of us kids thought it was funny. But the adults knew. Birdie used to say the King family was cursed. That one of his ancestors died in a way they shouldn’t, and it ruined the bloodline. But I didn’t believe in curses back then.
Emma:
Do you believe in them now?
Jojo:
Sometimes. Sometimes I think people just weren’t raised right.
Emma:
Maybe what people call curses is intergenerational trauma.
