Is that worse?
Jojo:
No one listens to podcasts anymore, right? How many subscribers do you have?
Emma:
People listen to this podcast.
Jojo:
[sigh] Whatever, let ’em drag me. I hate putting songs in the world because no one listens. Not the way they should.
Emma:
Do you think the way we consume music has changed?
Jojo:
We’ve always been this way. If someone says who they are or what’s important to them, we take it as criticism, like they’re saying this is who you should be. Or you get accused of writing some stereotype because they’ve heard your story before. But it’s still your story. Only now, because it’s playing during their carpool, it’s cliché.
Emma:
Is this why you collaborate so much? Because you don’t enjoy the process?
Jojo:
Honestly, yes. It’s not their face on the album, so I figure it’s easier for them. I don’t know. I should ask Ellis.
