CHAPTER 10

Einar

“You should be happy,” Rafe says, handing me a double of whiskey. “You’ve claimed her. She’ll feel the bond now. She’ll know what it means.”

“I lost control,” I say.

I am not pleased with myself. What I just did is the sort of treatment that should be reserved for… well, for nobody. I was harsh. I was rough. I took my pleasure in her virgin body, and I made sure she knew she was being used.

“She deserved it,” Rafe says. “She asked for it. You didn’t do anything she didn’t want.”

“That’s not the point. She wanted it, but that was a happy convenience. The point is I wouldn’t have cared if she didn’t. I would have just…”

“You wouldn’t have. If she had submitted, if she had shown any sign of wanting to obey at all, you would have been gentle andkind to her. She doesn’t want that. She wants exactly what you did. And my bet? She’ll push each and every one of us to do that to her. And then she’ll sleep like a baby, just like she is now.”

Kirin walks into the room with the rest of the whiskey bottle, and a faintly sour expression on his aristocratic face. He has been putting Darcy to bed, a task that he took upon himself.

“What’s your problem?” Rafe asks the question.

“Einar said I could have her first. Then he ravages her in front of both of us. There’ll be nothing left by the time we have our chance.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, boy. There’s plenty of her to go around,” Rafe says.

“I’m sorry. I did tell you that you could be the first to mate her,” I admit. “I got carried away.”

“Carried away? You were a fucking animal,” Kirin says. “She was a virgin. She was pure and innocent and you treated her like you found her on the street corner. It was disrespectful.”

“It was hot,” Rafe interjects.

“I thought we were going to claim her because we all felt a deep soul connection. I didn’t know we were going to ravish her in my afternoon garden.”

Kirin is young, idealistic, and quite sweet underneath all his bluster. I am sure he is disturbed by what he witnessed between Darcy and me.

“You’re right. That was wrong. It won’t happen again.”

“Yes, it will,” Rafe grins. “She likes it. I’ve never seen anybody come that hard before.”

“That’s because you’re bad in bed. You don’t have to dominate and brutalize a woman to make her have an orgasm, you brute,” Kirin says.

“You’re forgetting yourself,” Rafe says to him, lowering his tone just a little.

Kirin scowls. “You can’t pull rank when you don’t have the rank yet,” he says.

“Enough, children,” I sigh. “I am going to bed. Try not to kill each other.”

“Night, old man,” Rafe says.

Kirin does not say anything. I do not concern myself with his judgment. I am already suffering enough of my own.

CHAPTER 11

Darcy

I wake up sore, which doesn’t surprise me. Einar was rough with me, and I loved it. A smile spreads over my face as I remember how it felt to be pinned beneath him.

I’ve been transformed. I’ve been bred.

My body feels different. Not just achy and tender in the places I was touched for the first time, but different everywhere. I feel stronger. I feel taller, which doesn’t make any sense. I feel more deeply feminine. I feel more adult.
