She looked at Maeve.
‘Thank you for bringing that tea for me,’ she said in a gentle voice.
Maeve have her a nod. ‘I’ll leave you to your unit business,’ she said. ‘I'll come back later and bring you more.’
She gave Thorne a look as she left the tent, as if he was the greatest fool she’d ever set eyes on.
Elle didn’t move as he stood.
‘Well, you're getting stronger,’ he said, rubbing his jaw where she'd hit him.
‘The tea is because the babe is making me feel ill,’ she hissed, clearly still seething.
‘How long have you known about it?’ he asked.
She heaved a sigh, the anger seeming to leave her.
‘This afternoon I was ill in the Commander's tent while I was with Lily and Maeve. I didn't understand, but Maeve seems toknowabout things. She said she'd bring me the tea so that I would feel better.’
She rolled her eyes and retrieved the cup, pouring herself another. She sat back on the bed and sipped it, ignoring Thorne completely and refusing to look at him.
He ran his fingers through his hair. ‘Fuck,’ he muttered.

The Beast
He cursed Thorne. Why was he treating their mate this way? He bent forward slowly and got to his knees in front of Elle. She looked into his black eyes.
‘I’m so confused,’ she said quietly.
She tried to pull away as his arms enveloped her, but he didn’t let her go.
He embraced her gently, heaving a sigh.
‘A babe?’ he muttered, feeling elated. ‘Whose?’
‘I don't know.’ She buried her face in his chest. ‘I don't remember anything about it.’
‘You’re afraid,’ he said, and she nodded. He pulled her to him a little more tightly. ‘Hush, female. All will be well.’
But he wasn't sure if that was true. He'd been avoiding Thorne, still angry with him, but it was time that they became one once more. He wished he had the slightest idea of how such a thing could be done after so long apart. He would make more of an effort, he decided. The next time Thorne tried to speak to him, he’d try to answer. He didn’t want Elle to destroy them anymore. He wanted to be with her.
For now, though, he simply held Elle. She wasn't crying, but he was very worried. He knew that she had newfound knowledge that she hadn't had before, and it was weighing heavily on her.
‘Will you tell the others?’
‘I won't,’ he said, ‘but Thorne probably will. You should tell them before he does.’
She nodded.
‘Do you still feel ill?’
She shook her head. ‘It’s not too bad. Maeve’s tea is helping.’
He heard a rustle as someone entered and turned to see Rye, Nyx a step behind him.
They started when they saw him. Nyx swore, looking behind and tying the tent entrance pieces together securely.
