She seemed not even to find them shameful.
In fact, that moment when I flinched at her touch was when she softened and became gentle. That moment was when she let me close.
That was before my accursed past with Vasili reared up again between us.
So far, this class schedule Lucius has given me has kept me apart from Zara, which is frustrating. It has also kept me apart from Vasili, which is fortunate.
However, this Academy is far too small to keep us apart for long.
Slumped over the desk beside me, noisily popping her gum and scribbling verses that look like poetry in her notebook, lingers the strange prickly girl named Racetrack from ourdomus. But she is of little comfort. She has made clear that she only sits beside me because she promised her girlfriend she would look after me, so the new boy will not be hazed (although I was quick to assure her I am no child who needs sheltering).
Well, no matter.
Apparently, this Racetrack is a creature of her word. She has stayed stubbornly by my side all day, keeping all the others at bay, even though plainly she resents this duty.
Ronin Pendragon sprawls three rows away. He arrived at class quite late, and he is a considerable distraction. In the black blazer and crimson tie of the Friday uniform, with his silky hair pulled in a sleek tail, he lurks in our midst like a hunting jaguar.
He is such a blatantly sexual creature he is dangerous.
I find myself wondering, with some agitation, if Zara has told him what I confessed I want to do to him.
If she has, he does not seem intrigued by my forbidden fantasies. He does not even seem mildly interested. If anything, he is the opposite. To him, I am nothing more than that detestable creature who once wronged his precious boyfriend.
But today his heat is riding him. He is restless. He is distracted. He is fidgety. His pupils swallow his feral eyes, and a sheen of sweat glitters on his skin. Clearly Lucius (whom I now understand to be his alpha) should be tending him.
If the wolf will not? Well, I too am alpha.
Zara has already mated this Pendragon, even if only in the common law way of the witching world. He will be part of whatever she and I build together.
I wonder how opposed he would be to my mating bite.
“For fuck’s sake,” he mutters, a baleful outburst I do not expect. He sears me with an irate glare from his feverish eyes. “Keep it the fuck to yourself, yeah?”
Saint Sergius guard me. This warlock is reading my mind.
Given the tangle of lust and brutality that dominates my rutting dragon, my thoughts must feel to this sensitive telepath like a violation.
I struggle with a confused impulse to apologize. According to my culture, it is shameful, unmanly, immoral, unspeakable—especially for him at the, er, receiving end—these things I wish to do to him.
But this apologetic instinct is far less powerful than my sinful impulse to drag him into an empty classroom and bend him over one of these desks.
In truth, that treatment is what he requires.
I… I have never… taken a man. In my clan, it is never done, two men together, except shamefully and in secret. But Zara has been very clear already that the thought of me with this one pleases her.
I would please her.
I would please them both.
“Oh, bloody hell.” This time, Ronin’s explosive curse draws the schoolmistress’s ire. He shoves his chair back with a noisy scrape and thrusts roughly to his feet. “That’s it then.”
“Mr. Pendragon.” The elderly professor gives him a severe look over the top of her half-moon spectacles. “Has this particular DNA sequence done something to offend you?”
“Sorry, Aggie.” Ronin scoops up his backpack and strides for the door, but not before shooting me a narrow look through his tiger eyes that sends all the blood rushing to my dick. “Not feeling all that chipper.”
“I’m sorry to hear of your… indisposition,” she says calmly, with a look that suggests she understands exactly what condition is troubling him. “Take the hall pass. And go to see the nurse straightaway.”
I doubt he has any intention of that, he is probably going straight to his alpha for a fuck, although he does swipe the lanyard from its peg before he ducks out.
