I reached in and scooped up a tiny crab.She reached over and touched it.“It’s amazing to think all these little worlds exist right in the midst of our own world.”
“When we were younger, Slade and I used to spend hours out here trying to catch critters.Our shoulders would have big red blisters from the sun.We’d never catch much, but we never got discouraged.”
I straightened.Again, I offered her my hand.Her hand felt small and frail in my grasp as I led her across the rocks.We jumped off onto the soft wet sand, and I led her to a massive crevice in the cliffs.We stepped inside.
Jade looked up and spun around, looking like an excited little girl.We were nearly completely surrounded by towering walls created by bands of shale and sandstone.The air inside the roomy fissure was cold.Jade wrapped her arms around me to get warm.
“Seems like I’m always stealing your body heat,” she said.“This place is cool.It’s so?—”
