“Myles,” he said.
“Yep.”
“Only come back if you’re going to stay. Don’t string her along. She’s one of the good ones.”
“I know. That’s why I’ve been a miserable fuck ever since I came home.”
“Yeah, Connor may have mentioned that.” He chuckled. “I’m glad you figured it out. I guess this means you’ll be back in Blushing soon.”
I missed my girl. Everything about her. I missed her falling asleep beside me. I missed the sound of her voice. The way her lips turned up in the corners when I was being a smart-ass. Hell, I even missed small-town living. The peacefulness. The easiness. All of it.
“Yep. I’ve got to take care of a few things, but I’ll be in touch.”
“Got you, buddy. Let me know what you need.”
“Thank you.” I ended the call and made my way into the building and up to the top floor.
My brother and Connor were in the conference room, both with goofy smiles on their faces. And for the first time in two months, I felt hopeful.
I rolled my eyes. “Don’t get fucking cocky. But I need your help.”
“Of course you do. And you’re going to need to put your ego aside and go big,” Connor said.
“Lucky for you, I’m the king of grand gestures,” my brother said. “Let’s brainstorm.” He sat down at the table, and I took the seat beside him, with Connor across from us.
I didn’t know what I needed to do, but I knew I’d figure it out.
Because I was done staying away.
I wanted her, and it was time I let her know.
Chapter Twenty-NineMontana
“Do you think it’s weird that my name is going to be Leigh Lee?” my client asked as she shook her head with a smile on her face.
“You know what?”
“What?”
“I’ve seen people walk down the aisle with the perfect last name, and they weren’t happy. And I see the way Scotty looks at you. He’s so crazy about you, and that’s what everyone dreams of. When you two are together, you can feel all that love. So who cares what your last name is? If it bothers you, you could hyphenate your maiden name, or Scotty could take your last name. But that just comes down to what makes you both happy. Anyone focusing on your name at the wedding is just envious of what you two have. Because it’s rare. And I don’t think you should go into this weekend with anything but joy, because you’re lucky,” I said honestly, and I startled when I realized a tear was rolling down my cheek.
Will I ever get a freaking break?
Leigh turned her chair to face me in the conference room, taking my hands in hers. “Montana, you’ve literally made my wedding dreams cometrue, and we haven’t even walked down the aisle yet. You’re amazing, and you deserve all the happiness too.” She sniffed and smiled up at me. “I never liked Phillip for you. Do you know that everyone in town used to say that he was dating out of his class, because he was never good enough for you? But you sure seemed happy whenever I’d see you with Myles around town. You two were always laughing and smiling and looking at one another like there was no one else around. You never seemed like that with Phillip. And I don’t know if you were dating Myles or what was going on; it’s not my business. But I know you deserve to feel like that all the time.”
A lump so thick formed in my throat, and I shook my head. “I’m the wedding planner. I’m supposed to be making you cry. Not vice versa.”
“You’re so much more than a wedding planner to me, Montana. You’re a friend. And you feel like family. And I just want you to know how much I appreciate you. So I’m going to rock being Mrs. Leigh Lee for the rest of my life. And if anyone has something to say about it, I’ll just think of you and smirk, knowing that they’re just envious.”
“Damn straight, girl. You’re living the whole fairy tale.” I pushed to my feet, and she did the same as we hugged. After we’d pulled apart, we made our way back out to the office. She waved goodbye, and I turned to see the seating chart that Blakely had printed out for us.
“Oh, this is perfect,” I said, looking it over. “Yes. Keeping a few tables between her parents will make it a little less stressful for Leigh.”
Her parents had gone through a brutal divorce a few years back. Her father had remarried, and there was no love between them anymore. So Leigh had been worried about it, but a thoughtful seating chart could alleviate a lot of that anxiety.
“Hey,” Violet said, emerging from her office. “Do you want to head over to the farmhouse and check it out? Apparently, it’s all done.”
“Yes. Why don’t we close up early so the three of us can head over there and see it together,” I said as the bells on the door chimed, and I turned around.
