“I miss you too. You can go to sleep. I’m still coming to you, but I know you’re tired after the week you had.”
“How long do you think you’ll be? I’m trying to stay up.”
Cage groaned. “I’m not too sure. I’m going to see if Red can wrap it up so I can get to you.”
“Now you know he acts like he can’t handle anything without you. I guess I’ll see you in the morning.”
I hung up on him before he could respond. My irritation level was at an all-time high, so I put my phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ and headed to my room. As badly as I wanted to go to sleep, I couldn’t. My mind was racing with different scenarios of Cage until I heard him coming through my front door twenty minutes later.
Just as quickly as I rolled over to fake sleep, Cage rolled me onto my back and stood over me. My eyes flitted upward, and I turned my head to avoid his hard glare. His cold hand gripped my face, forcing it up to his.
Damn.
Why was he so fine?
A long stocking covered his locs, giving me the perfect view of the deep scowl etched on his handsome face.
Dented, perfect brows with wrinkles between them and his forehead.
Pink lips tightly pursed together.
Sultry brown eyes lowered.
Even with Cage obviously frustrated with me, I could still feel his love.
I reached up to touch his face, but he moved it away. “Don’t do that shit anymore, Korren. I don’t care how upset we are with one another. We talk it out. We don’t let shit fester. You were dead wrong for hanging up on me.”
He was right, but I didn’t want to admit it. I was still in my feelings about him being MIA lately.
“Funny how you got here so quickly after I hung up when you weren’t sure at first.”
Cage thumbed his nose with his free hand. “You knew I was trying to get here sooner. You’re being real petty right now.”
“Because our time together has lessened, Cage. We’ve talked about this before.”
“You think I’m doing it purposely?”
I closed my eyes and swayed my head the best I could. When my bottom lip quivered, Cage released me. Seconds later, I heard my shower running. Once again, just as I was about to roll over, Cage’s soft touch to my thigh stopped me. Gently, he tugged on my shorts, a silent plea for me to join him. I’d already cleansed my body, but despite my anger, I couldn’t deny his request.
In the bathroom, Cage took his time removing my clothes and kissing each exposed part of my body except for my center. I was on my period, so sex was off limits, but other acts of intimacy wasn’t. He stepped in the shower behind me with his arms draped around me.
“I love you, KoKo.”
I closed my eyes and leaned my head against his shoulder. “I love you too, but this shit is getting hard, Cage.”
“I know, and I’m trying to make things work all the way around. It’s not easy putting everyone and everything first.”
“What about you?”
“What about me?”
I turned around to face him, enjoying the feel of the water beating on my back. “When are you going to start putting yourself first?”
“It’s easier said than done when I’ve always put others before me.”
“You’re going to drive yourself crazy and lose people if you don’t start. When you don’t put yourself first, you neglect the parts of you that are most important. I don’t want to see that happen to you.”
“I hear you, baby. I do. I’m going to do better, but like I asked before, be patient with me.”
