I mutter against his mouth, “We’re going to be late.”
“I know, I know. You’re distracting me. It’s your fault.”

Nico welcomes us into his home with a massive smile. His wife, Serafina, has become a very close friend of mine over the past two months. As I walk in, she immediately pulls me into a hug.
“Wow, those earrings are gorgeous,” she says, noticing them right away.
“Thank you,” I grin. “The love of my life spoils me every day.”
I throw Andrei a cheeky grin and wink at him.
He slaps my ass, and I squeal, trying to dodge it but failing.
“Get a room,” Nico teases, wrapping his arm around Serafina’s waist and holding her close against him.
Dinners with the Andreev family and the Kuznetsovs have become a regular thing. They welcomed us into their lives so easily and comfortably that it feels like we’ve always been a part of their family.
Andrei’s healing was a slow process. Even after he no longer had to stay in bed, it was still a painful journey with a lot of physio that he is still dedicated to for the next six months, and Nico and his family were there for us every step of the way.
They continuously checked in on us and always brought food, cakes, and good wine whenever they visited.
I adore Jade, and Aly and I are so close that I’m starting to understand what it’s like to have a sister.
In fact, every time I visit any of them, or come to one of these dinner parties, I get a glimpse of what it’s like to have a big family. A genuine, loving family that is supportive and incredible in every single way.
I hear a loud bang from the kitchen and a squeal, so I redirect and head towards the sounds.
Aly and Jade are in there, bending over the stove.
“What’s going on?” I ask.
“Hi, sweetie. Do you want some wine?”Aly asks, her hand on her hip and her nose scrunched up.
I laugh at her. “Don’t worry about my wine, I’ll get some in a bit. Why are you two trying to burn the kitchen down?”
Jade huffs and glares at her sister. “Aly thought it was a good idea to give George the night off.”
“But you two are incredible cooks. Why is it a problem to give your chef the night off?” I ask, sliding my butt onto the kitchen counter to watch the chaos unfold.
Whatever was in the oven is charred black and smoking.
Aly unhooks the fire extinguisher from the back of the kitchen door and blasts a thick cloud of white powder into the oven.
Jade screams in fright and jumps back, and I’m laughing so hard I can’t breathe.
“It wasn’t on fire, you moron,” she shouts at Aly, grabbing the fire extinguisher.
Aly winks at me. “I’ve always wanted to try one of those things.”
“You’re not supposed to do it when someone is standing right there,” Jade moans.
I slide off the counter, and we all peer into the oven, waving our hands to clear away the white cloud.
“It’s still dead,” I grin.
“Ye, no shit Sherlock,” Aly laughs.
