“What would you call it?”
I shrugged. “Tuesday Morning. It’s fitting.”
He kissed my forehead. “I can see it. I support you, Mama. Just tell me what you need, and I got you.”
It was right there. His support, no judgment, no argument, just pure love. I blessed his chest with another kiss before I dozed off.
I’ve been contemplating all day whether I should visit Zeus or not. Seeing him in the Zoo, and him wanting to talk, made me feel like there was some light at the end of the tunnel. Although I had been giving him a hard time, it had only been to show him I wasn’t the one to play with. After each interaction, when I put on a hard exterior underneath it all, I was dying inside. Zeus had to be taught a lesson. The look in his eyes the other night, though, and him saying he wanted to see me almost broke me. I was trying to truly decipher if he wanted to talk or fuck.
However, after leaving him, the words of Harvey and Tuesday settled in me.Did I need to heal first before Zeus and I could genuinely love each other?I know it wasn’t just I who needed to heal, but Zeus as well. Our love language was sex, it’s how we spoke to each other, and no matter how many times I tried not to do it, Zeus had an aura about him that called to my pussy, and she responded every time. Deep down, I knew that was a problem.
I glanced down at my ring and smiled. He wanted the same things I did; he wanted to give me the life I had always dreamedof, but the problem was, I still hadn’t told him that I couldn't have kids. There was so much that needed to be discussed before we took any steps forward. My finger spun around the rim of the cup as I watched the couples walk down Café Lane.
“Sasha!” Zaria called out.
I had forgotten that we were talking about something else only minutes ago. This situation with Zeus was weighing down on me so bad that it had become my entire existence. I gave her a weak smile. “Sorry, girl. What were you saying?”
She smacked her lips before sipping the tea in her cup, “I was saying I think I’m going to host a Zoo-Cue.”
My face frowned. “A What?”
“I said a Zoo-Cue. Like a barbecue for the Zoo. This way we can get acquainted with the new people. Welcome them, and maybe you, Zeus, Preach, and Navi can see that we are a family.”
I raised my brow. Zaria was so optimistic about things. She always found light in something. It made sense why she and Chevy were a good match for each other. She knew how to create balance not only in her marriage but within the Zoo family. Hell, she and Indigo had been trying their hardest to find a way to make peace within the Zoo and Cove. However, that issue wasn’t going to be resolved by their likeness to them. Bishop and Chevy were rock-headed, and they would have to hash out their issues their way. We all just prayed it wasn’t by death.
I didn’t know if this was a good idea, but either way, I couldn’t run. I was a part of the Zoo, whether with Zeus or not. This entire situation presents the possibility of changing the Zoo’s dynamics, but I didn’t want to be the reason. I couldn’t be the reason. “I’ll be there. When?”
Zaria leaned forward, and before she could speak, someone walked over to the table. Her perfume lingered between us; her red painted stiletto styled nails were familiar. My eyes traveled up to see that it was the woman, who had her hand on Zeus whenI walked into the café that day. Something about the way her lip curled as she smiled bothered me. “Hello, ladies. I wanted to see if you all are enjoying the tea. It’s one of our new flavors.”
Zaria sat back as she squinted her eyes at the lady. “It’s good, thank you. It’s a bit bitter when you first sip it, then it goes down your throat sweetly.”
“It’s ok,” I said dryly.
The woman cut her eyes at me, and I rolled mine at her. She then glanced at Zaria. I could see a sinister grin appear on Zaria’s face. She didn’t like her at all. That’s right, Z.I thought.
“It’s called midnight. I named it after a very intriguing person.”
“Did you? What’s his name?”
I leaned forward, “Zaria,” I whispered.
She held her hand out and waved it at me, “No, Sasha, I want to hear this.”
I didn’t know what was going on, but I was here for it. “Zaria, is it?”
She gave her another fake smile. “Yes, Zaria Calloway.”
“Nyomi, Nyomi Snow,” she said, trying to shake Zaria’s hand.
“I know who you are. My husband, you know, Mr. Midnight, the one you were gracious enough to name your tea after, comes here and buys in bulk forourbusiness. A little birdy told me how you gush over him every time he comes into your café. I wanted to visit, it’s nice here, but let me tell you something. I don’t play about him, and if you don’t know, you better find out; real fast. Now, Ms. Snow, I would like to finish sipping this midnight tea so I can go home and fuck on the real midnight, and that’s my tea.” She finished, then sucked her teeth.
Nyomi couldn’t say anything. Instead, she nodded and walked away. My head turned to Zaria, “Girl!” I laughed. “I’ve been through too much with June, and what I’m not about to do is tolerate another woman trying her hand.”
I didn’t know if it was the baby or if Zaria had truly come into herself, but I liked it. It made me think about Zeus, could I see him with someone else outside of me? I didn’t know what to do, but I knew that I was ready to see him.
PIERRE
The DJ had finished setting up for this party Keith was hosting for his shorty. People had begun to arrive while everyone waited for Keith to show up. Indigo was moving her body to the music, like she was in the club, while Bishop stood on the side of her, annoyed as fuck. I had only stopped by to show my support because my night was ending with my baby.
