Bishop decided today was the day he wanted to view his mother’s body at the morgue. I knew this meant a lot to him, so I had to put my issues to the side to give my nigga the support he needed. When he said he needed to pick up Tavaris, I was shocked. He ran the story down, and to see he was giving his ex-op twin brother a chance, surprised the fuck out of me. What surprised me more was Bishop's attempt to bond with him, which showed his growth.

We had pulled up to Lani’s and waited outside. It had been a minute since we’ve hung out with her after having the babies. Bishop picked up his phone and dialed out.

“Bop!” Lani’s voice came in through the car speaker.

I glanced at Bishop, who was in his head, so I jumped in. “Sup girl, you been hiding or what?” I called out.

Her soft giggles filled the car. “P, what’s up? I didn’t know you were going too, but I should have known.”

I nodded. “Seven to da cove always.”

“Always to da cove,” she replied.

I glanced at Bishop, who hadn’t responded yet, as his attention was placed straight ahead. I knew his thoughts were all over the place, so I was doing my best to keep the atmosphere calm. “Lani, you forgot about us?”

She laughed again. “Of course not, but I am a mother now. My focus has been on my precious boys, who are much like Anthony. Bop, I heard the news and I’m so sorry. You and Anthony need each other. Be good to him, please.”

I could see Bishop’s jaw tighten. “I got you,” he mumbled.

Moments later, Tavaris was coming down the steps and toward the car. “Love you, Lani, let us know if you need anything.”

“I will, love you both more,” she finished, then hung up.

Tavaris opened the back door and slid in. Bishop hadn’t said anything; instead, he took off. I glanced in the back and dapped him up. “You good?”

“Yeah,” he slurred dryly.

Angela and Naheem had really fucked them up. Bishop was stronger than Tavaris, but they were equally wrecked. I had felt bad for both of them because although I wasn’t afforded a rich lifestyle like either one of them, I was afforded a loving family. I had the luxury of knowing what it felt like to be loved by a mother and to be reprimanded by a father, and those things I vowed never to complain about. Bishop and Tavaris were stuck with the Avery curse.

Tavaris leaned forward, “I almost killed a nigga, Bishop,” he said.

Bishop’s eyes bounced in the review mirror, “Who?”

“I don’t know,” he paused. “He said he was Indigo and Tania’s brother. I’m their fucking brother.”

“No!You’remybrother! You and me, Anthony, blood,” Bishop told him.

Tavaris didn’t say anything back. The entire situation was fucked up, and if anyone wanted a nigga to explain the run down, we couldn’t because it was just that much bullshit that was tied to it. We drove for another twenty minutes before we reached the hospital. When we pulled up and parked, I asked Bishop if he wanted me to sit in the car while he and Tavaris went inside, but he said he wanted me to come.

I was dreading this more than either one of them was because we still didn’t know who did this, and in my heart of hearts, I knew it would destroy my best friend. We made our way intothe hospital and were led to the floor where the morgue was. We followed behind the nurse, and both Bishop and Tavaris’s walk became in sync. It was almost scary to see because the longer I watched them, the more I could tell they were fucking twins. When we got to the window, I stood behind them both. Simultaneously, they both ran their hand over their heads nervously.

When the person on the other side of that window pulled the sheet back, their reactions were oddly different. Bishop’s knees buckled and I could hear his muffled sobs while Tavaris stared at her angrily. He turned to his brother and embraced him in a hug, and that was the first time I had ever seen Bishop be so accepting.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I quickly pulled it out. It said I had a missed call from Tuesday. My phone didn’t ring because if it had, I would have answered. I noticed my service was shaking and that’s why I had missed it.Shit!I was able to make some arrangements and deposit money into her account. She must have seen it. It didn’t matter how mad she was at me or how she ignored me, I knew she didn’t have anything. My job, regardless, was to make sure she was straight, so I did that.

As bad as I wanted to run the fuck out of here to call her back, my nigga needed me. I slid the phone back into my pocket, but inside, I was praying she didn’t hate me for not answering.

BEST

The softest touch I hadn’t felt in years slid down my back, caressing my spine. The feeling of the long-awaited moment passed through me, making me close my eyes in bliss. His chocolate fingertips still knew every inch of my body and hadn’t missed a beat. The black silk sheets sat at my waistline as my hips moved slowly, out doing the waves in the ocean. The melody we were creating was of pure passion and filled with love. His hand gripped my waist as we rocked together.

Back and forth.

Naheem hadn’t forgotten how to use what his father was so gracious enough to bless him with. My mouth opened and belted the sweetest moan I could conjure up because it felt that damn good. “Ahh, mmm Nook,” I moaned as my head fell backwards.

Back and forth.

His hand glided up my body, gripped the back of my head and brought it forward. I bit my lip because there was no way this man’s sex was better than it was years ago. It made me not want to let go of any of it. For this moment, I regretted letting him walk away. I didn’t want to speed up because I needed every inch of him, for every year I’ve missed out on; that’s how good Naheem’s dick was. I wasn’t a vulgar lady, but he made me that way.
