I couldn’t believe it. My heart smiled inside because I knew it was something about Dio that connected us, but I was sad that we couldn’t find a way to make our connection explode.
“Damn Zeus you got a dealership?” Dio asked.
I smiled proudly. “Yes, it’s ours,” I told him.
I watched his facial expressions as he took in the place, which I had worked so hard to get in order. Financially, I wanted him to be ok if anything ever happened to me. I wanted something he could fall back on, and this was it. However, Dio’s expression wasn’t one of excitement.
“What’s up?” I asked.
He glanced around and ran his hand over his locs. “I fucks with it and all, but I want to do something different. This is your dream, not mine.”
I was surprised as hell. It was crazy because I thought he would have been jumping for joy that it was something he didn’t have to do a lick of work for to make money. I guess that was another one of my selfish ways, putting the shit I wanted on someone else. Now I felt like shit because I had never asked my brother what his dreams were.
“Tell me what your dreams are then.”
He paced around the parking lot. “I love bikes, and I love riding, but I want more. Zeus, I applied for college,” he said as he looked at me.
If a nigga could have jumped up and down like a kid, I would have. I knew that Dionysus was smart as fuck and him going to college and experiencing that lifestyle would be good for him. I nodded with pride. “That’s what’s up, man. I’m proud of you.”
He shot me his crooked smile. “Don’t get all mushy and shit. I still have to do a creative writing piece, and I don’t know what the fuck to write. The deadline is coming up, and I need to figure it out.”
“I can help you.”
“Nah nigga I’m good. I think I know the person to ask, but I want to ask a little more than that, but I don’t know how to approach the situation.”
I knew he was talking about that girl. I didn’t know much about her, but he had brought her up a few times. Although she was living with Chevy, I could see that not talking to her bothered him. I wasn’t the nigga to give advice because I had my own shit going on, but I still wanted to try. “You like her like a friend or something more?” I asked, then held my hand out. “Did you two—”
“Nah, she’s not that kind of girl. I got an idea can you drop me off somewhere?” he asked.
“Whatever you need.”
Chevy wanted to have a group meeting. I knew Freckles was going to be there, and I needed to get my emotions in order. After letting Dio take my car and getting my bike, I was running a few minutes late. I walked into the Zoo with all eyes on me.
“Finally! Where is Dio?” Diamond asked.
“He needed to do some shit.”
I knew they were asking because he was now a part of the Zoo, but Chev and I decided to give him some time. I didn’t need him to get wrapped up into this shit we had going on here after what he had just experience.
I tried not focusing on Freckles, but I couldn’t help it. She looked good as a muhfucka, and I almost wanted to drop to my knees and beg her to come home. My eyes traveled from her feet to her face as her eyes landed on me. We held each other’s stare for a few seconds before she rolled her eyes and focused on Chevy.
Before directing my attention to him I saw she had the ring on her finger and a part of me felt good about that because it let me know she still cared for a nigga.
Chevy’s voice echoed through the Zoo. “I wanted to meet up for a couple of reasons. What I’m about to say isn’t up for discussion so save yo smart ass comments, your banter, and your stutters for someone else. My fucking business was burned the fuck down. In my eyes it was those Cove niggas. However, from what I hear, it wasn’t. I don’t give a fuck because the damage is done, and I know that fuck nigga Bishop is going to be on demon time. In my crew, we shoot, in my crew we kill when needed, and in my fucking crew we stick together. So, all you new niggas better get on board. I don’t got time for a scary muhfucka so if that’s you, give me your muhfuckin jacket and get the fuck out!” he shouted.
I glanced around, and none of them moved.
“We street niggas Chevy we know what it is. We wouldn’t ask to be a part of your crew if we didn’t know, so ease up and let us know the next move,” Beans’ baritone voice came in.
“Huh, says the rich nigga whose parents can get him out of anything,” Chevy said walking toward him.
“Ditto,” Beans shot back. “I know about the Merciers.”
Diamond ran up so fast before Chev got in his face. “We are a team, remember.”
Chevy smiled as he nodded. He clapped his hands together, “Woo!I got a spicy nigga in the crew!”
Clap! Clap! Clap!
