The shrooms began kicking in, and Zaria had now become a slew of colors. My phone vibrated on the dresser, and I hurried over to pick it up as Zaria left the room.
My vision had become blurry as I went to answer the phone. “Hello?”
“Samara,” Chevy’s voice called out.
“Chevy?”
“Yeah, where is Z?”
I glanced at the door that turned into some sort of portal. I began giggling. “Che-Chevy I- I don’t know.”
“Fuck wrong with you?”
I went to respond, but the shrooms had hit me so hard my head fell back as I glanced at the ceiling.Brown, white, lilac, fuchsia, blue, then orangepopped up.“Amazing,”my voice trailed off.
Suddenly, I leaned back on the bed and zoned out. I just hoped whatever Chevy had to say wasn’t important.
TAMEKA
I had finally made it back to the hospital after leaving a disastrous situation. I spotted three of Sergio’s guards outside when the driver pulled up. I knew he had left them out here to watch who came in and out of the hospital.
I exited the car and made my way inside. With every step I took, this place felt like a death sentence. By the time I reached the floor I needed to be on, there were more guards standing around. My stomach sank. I knew I should have gone directly to Bianca’s room, but knowing that boy Dio was still breathing, even on a machine, left me curious.
My four-thousand-dollar heels grace the flooring. When I reached the window, a different guy sat there than the last time. How many people did this little boy have?
Now it was a matter of how many people he had on his team versus what I knew Sergio had. Something in me told me a war would strike soon, and I needed to be prepared. “Family?” I heard a nurse ask.
I turned toward her and gave her a weak smile. Before I answered, I thought about what I wanted to say. I glanced back through the window as the guy approached the door. I spun toward the nurse, and her rapid blinking waited for an answer. I took a quick peek over my shoulder and saw him go toward the restroom. I looked back at her. “Yes, yes, he is.”
She nodded slowly. “He seems to have a lot of people who love him. Keep fighting.” She smiled and walked away.
Love him? How could they love someone who causes a lot of trouble? So much trouble he took someone’s life.My heels liftedslightly from the floor as I headed toward his room. I stepped inside and stared at Dio for a few minutes. I gathered myself as I walked over to his bedside.
My head turned slightly to the side as I watched him. He looked just like Bianca, peacefully sleeping. My hand touched his as I leaned forward. “You did this to my baby,” I whispered in his ear.
I didn’t know if I was hoping for a squeeze or an eye blink, but I was upset. I was so angry. I wanted to blame everyone but myself. The more I glared at him, the angrier I got. “You little shit!” I gritted. “You killed my fucking brother, and I hope you die!” I gritted again.
I squeezed his hand as I leaned closer. I wanted to be so close to his ear that he would hear me even if he were in some sleep realm. “Bianca is dead, and there is no way she is dead, and you're still alive. You turned her against me.” I cried.
Tears poured out of me onto his face. I had gone from squeezing his hand to hitting his side. Then from his side to his stomach, to his chest. “You did this!” I screamed. “Your ass did this!”
The machine went off. His heart rate went up. My eyes grew as I glanced at the machine. Something was happening.
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
I slowly backed out of the room and down the hall. I took one last look before turning the corner, and that’s when I saw the blue light flash.
Code Blue.
There was no way his little ass would live, and my baby died.
A life for a life.
“Shit!” Chevy yelled.
I glanced at him, waiting for some sort of answer from the girl. “Well?”
“Nigga, she ain’t say shit. Something’s off. I can feel it.” Chevy said.
