“I’m just a mother.”

The way he watched me made me feel small. I knew I was much older than he, but his eyes were calculating shit that told me he was much wiser, with an old spirit. Now I had become curious about who was in that room. My eyes looked past him, then back at him.

“I see you watching. That room over there,” he pointed. “That muhfucka will get someone killed. I suggest you go back to where you came from, Sweetheart.”

“What did you say to me?”

I understood him being upset at whatever they were going through, but at the end of the day, he didn’t know who he was talking to. The gentleman walked past me and smoothly floated down the hall. When he turned the corner, I focused on that door.

My feet began to move as I eased toward the door slowly. My stomach turned the closer I got. When I reached the window to look, I couldn’t fucking believe it. I tossed my hand over my mouth because Dio was still alive. Two men sat in the room with him.“Shit!”I said underneath my hand.

He looked just like Bianca did in her room. I turned and hurried down the hall. I needed to get to Felipe. I needed him to follow that guy and find out more about him. I spun the corner rushing back into the main hall, only to see Sergio coming off the elevator with five of his guys. The expression on his face let me know he was out for blood.

I needed to stop him before he got to Bianca’s room and saw Felipe sitting beside her, giving her the love a father should. If not, Felipe would be dead before he even lifted his head. If Sergio learned the truth, the war would become bigger than the outside world.

BOOGIE

I had taken the train to Manhattan to get to this nigga Dio’s spot. I didn’t want to drive into the madness if I needed to run. I had to move quicker than traffic, and being in a car would limit me. I pulled the strings to my hood, scrunching it on my face as I entered the building.

This is fire.I knew that every dime spent monthly here was worth it. I could hear someone asking me to sign in, but I ignored them and continued toward the elevator. Once inside, two security guards came running, just missing the door closing by a second. As the elevator went up, sweat began to bead on my forehead beneath the hoodie. The only thought that crossed my mind was to get in and get out. I didn’t want to waste too much time being mesmerized by the luxury of this place. The only goal was to find my money and leave.

Ding!

The door opened, introducing me to the luxurious hall. I flicked my nose as I stepped off and made a left. The stroll to his door seemed in slow motion, but I knew I was moving fast. When I got to his door, I pulled one of my burner cards out of my pocket. I gripped the door handle, stuck the card in, and wiggled. The door quickly swung open, and I was met with the barrel of a forty-five. “Surprise muhfucka!” The nigga gritted.

Before I could step back, the barrel of the gun met the side of my face. I felt my body being snatched forward and tossed on the floor.

“Nigga you’re breaking into my shit!”

Stomp!

“Fuck type of time you on, huh?”

Stomp!

“Sit this hoe nigga up, Foe,” I heard another nigga say.

My eyes began swelling to the point that my vision had become blurry. The swinging dreads and beastly looking nigga bent before me.Did Mia give me the wrong condo number? The bitch set me up!I tried holding out my hand to make the nigga ease up. “I-I think I got the wrong—”

Another blow, this time to my gut. “I don’t trust none of you goofy ass New York niggas. You’re sliding cards in doors. Nigga you picked the wrong spot on the right day and I’m not the one to let up on your ass.”

Suddenly, the nigga lifted me and tossed me into the wall knocking the wind out my ass. I began coughing and inhaling deeply to catch my breath. My eyes landed on the wall as my vision tried to become clear, and I saw my name. It wasn’t the wrong condo.Fuck! Mia was right.I now knew I wasn’t getting out of here alive without fighting my way out or convincing them that I had nothing to do with Dio. Karma was a muhfucka. She was sure to show me that she played no games.

Click! Click!

“I’m about to put a bullet through this bitch nigga!” One of them barked.

“Wait!” I shouted.

I could barely rise before a foot hit my gut again. I knew if I didn’t get this shit under control, I wasn’t leaving this bitch alive. Jewel and Raquel were dead for sure if Tameka hadn’t already done it. I mustered up a little strength and rushed the nigga standing in front of me sending him flying back onto the table.

I went to draw my fist back to hit his ass.

Bloaw!

A bullet pierced my arm. “Ah!” I screamed.

“Nigga I will kill yo bitch ass. I’m not the nigga that spares lives. You a bold nigga and to me that means you know something.”
