“And where do you fall on the asshole scale?” Crank joined in, and Pinch glared at him.

“Don’t start shit with me because I caught you flirting with Mad,” Pinch sneered at Crank.

“I wasn’t flirting. I was at the counter taking out some cash! Besides, your sister is a grown woman. She’s the one who walked up to me,” Crank said. At the mention of the bank, it cleared up how my dad knew I bought a house. Pinch’s sister works there. She probably figured my brothers knew and had mentioned something to Pinch.

“Don’t make me kick your ass. I’ve told you to stay away from Mad.”

My lips twitched at Pinch’s words. Crank and Pinch were best friends and had been since grade school. But it didn’t matter when it came to Pinch’s sister. Best friend or not, he didn’t want Crank around Madison. Hell, he didn’t want any of the brothers around Madison.

It didn’t escape me that watching them go back and forth gave me the time I needed to let loose of the remaining anger I held. Tomorrow I’d get my answers regardless if I liked them or not. When it was over, no matter my feelings toward Raven, I’d work on getting to know my son.

“Like you could,” Crank said, and he and Pinch both stood facing off with each other.

“Either one of you throws a punch and I will personally kickbothyour asses. Sit the hell down!” At my dad’s reprimand, a few seconds passed as the two stared at each other before finally reoccupying their seats.

Wild Bill relaxed and leaned back in his chair. “For Christ’s sake, what the hell is wrong with you boys?”

“I’d suggest they’d regressed back to grade school but, Prez, you don’t look much like any teacher I ever had,” Tram said, and his lips twitched.

I laughed at the image Tram’s statement brought on. And just like that, the tension in the room was gone. Nothing beat the camaraderie of my brothers.

“Enough goofing off. We’ve got some business to deal with. Hawk will be here soon. He was waiting on Charlie,” Prez said.

“Yeah, they were five minutes out when he called. That’s why we came to the office,” Moose said.

“This have to do with the text you sent earlier, Prez?” I asked.

Prez leaned forward and rested his forearms on his desk. “Part of it. I’ll catch you all up when Hawk arrives. No sense having to repeat myself.”

Chapter Four

Raven

The kids and I satin the car in front of my grandparents’ house. Ry nor Reagan had spoken since I pulled away from Haven. Not even a peep when I stopped at the burger place and pulled through their drive-thru. No one shouted out what they wanted when it was our turn to order.

Never in any of the scenarios over the years when I thought about telling Reed about Ry—did today’s episode run through my mind. I anticipated his temper and that he might feel betrayed, but when faced with all the emotions pushing out from him today, being prepared was nowhere close.
