“Tiny? I saw stars.”

“Babe, I’m the one who got injured. I’ve taken a fist to the face that didn’t jar my teeth like your head did. First time I’ve been injured fucking in my truck.”

I smacked arm. “It wasn’t my fault. You’re the one who couldn’t wait and pulled off the road. We’re lucky we didn’t get caught, which, if I recall was why my head bumped into your chin in the first place.”

I’d ridden into work with Gramps that morning and before closing, he was called to the shelter to have a look at one of the dogs that were sick. When he called and said he was going to be longer than planned and if I didn’t want to wait on him at the clinic, then call to have Reed pick me up since he was coming to dinner.

“Hey, you’re the one who panicked when you saw headlights and whacked my chin when you raised to get off me. And in my defense, I pulled off so I could get some lip time, other than a peck before we got to your grandparents’ house. You’re the one who climbed into my lap while we were kissing and started grinding on me.”

“You should be a gentleman and take the blame.”

“Oh, babe, I would...if I was a gentleman. Besides, we’re not going to have to deal with it much longer. Come on, let’s get dressed. I picked up a couple of subs on the way here. Didn’t want you going back to work hungry. Though looking at the clock, you’re going to be a little late anyway.”

“I’d rather lay here with you than eat.”

“Me, too, but I got something to show you after we finish eating.”

“Okay, but it better be good.” He swatted my butt, then roll out of bed. I stretched my deliciously sore muscles and then did the same.

After dressing then eating subs that we washed down with water, Reed led me upstairs.

“Oh, have you bought furniture for the other rooms?” I asked when he stopped us in front of a door to one of three empty bedrooms left empty upstairs. Ry’s room was the only one furnished.

“Sorta,” he said and opened the door.

“Oh my God, it’s beautiful. When did you do all this?” I asked as I walked into the room. The walls were painted a soft pink with a purple border with every type of animal on it. A white princess bed sat against one wall with a canopy and a nightstand that sat beside it. There was a dresser with a mirror, a chest of drawers, a bookshelf with an attached desk, and a small rocker. Every piece matched down to the lamp that set on the nightstand.

On closer inspection, little things caught my attention. The frame on the table by the bed that held a picture of Reagan with her dad, Derek. The stuffed animals sitting in the rocker. Books in the bookshelf. Tears filled my eyes and I turned to look at Reed, who stood just inside the door watching me.

“Why did you do all this?”

“Well, a couple of reasons.” He walked into the room and stopped in front of me, “I thought Reagan might like having her own room here.” He lifted his hand, and I gasped at the ring sitting in the middle of his palm. “I love you, Raven. I don’t think I ever stopped. Will you marry me?”

The tears spilled over and ran down my cheeks. “Reed, I love you, too. And yes. Yes, I’ll marry you.”

He slid the ring on my finger and grabbed my hands. “You were mine the first time I saw you standing in front of that locker fighting the with the lock. And you’ll be mine until I take my last breath. I had the room fixed for Reagan because I wanted to show her that she matters to me, not because of Ry or you. Because of who she is. And I want her to be happy. Hell, I want her to be mine. And I’m hoping you’ll agree and consider letting me adopt her.”

“You, Reed Borelli, are a good man. No wonder I love you.”

“You make me better.” He bent and pecked me on my lips. “Now, if you don’t get out of here, you’re going to be super late, and I don’t want Doc getting mad and talking you out of marrying me.”

“No way would he do that. He’s always liked you. He was your biggest champion when it came to Ry. I want to blow off work and have you take me back to bed and celebrate, but the schedule for today is full. I can’t do that to him.”

“I know. So after work, I’ll meet you at your grandparents’ house, and we’ll tell the kids together, then you guys can pack some things and move in here. After the kids go to bed, you and I will have our celebration. We can get married whenever you want, but I want you and the kids in this house.”

“Alright, but may I suggest the kids stay with Gran and Gramps tonight so we can celebrate properly.”

“That works for me. Now get out of here before I change my mind and carry you back to bed.” Reed tugged and started leading me out of the room.

Once we were downstairs, he left me standing at the front door and told me not to move, then turned and walked down the hallway. When he came back with my keys, I frowned. “I could have gotten them.”

“No, because I’m holding on by a thread and if you went in the bedroom, you wouldn’t be getting out of the house.”

“Does that mean I’m not getting a kiss goodbye? ‘Cause that peck upstairs was not sufficient to seal a marriage deal.” I grinned, and he glared, making me laugh.

Reed didn’t answer, he opened the door and all but shoved me out of the house. I laughed all the way to the car where he unlocked it, opened the door and waited for me to get in.

Once I was in the car, he handed over the keys and waited until I was situated and had the car started. Then he started to push the door closed, but stopped halfway and leaned in.
