I smiled back at the little girl. “Well, that’s one good thing going for you in life.”
The man sat up and leaned against the wall. “She can be yours for thirty thousand.”
Shit. The little girl was Desiree’s, making her my half-sister. I looked over atJag,and he shrugged.
“How old is she?”
“I knew you would be interested. Leech is three and a half. Des don’t know the daddy, it was one of her johns.”
“If you call her Leech one more time, I’m going to pull your tongue out and shove it up your ass. Got me?” I spoke to themanbut kept smiling at the little gir...my sister.
“Dev, we’vegotyour back, brother. What you want to do?”
“She comes with us, then I will go see Desiree and have a little chat.”
“I’m going to need my thirty thousand in cash.” I pinched the bridge of my nose and shook my head. And Jag actually chuckled. I dropped my hand from my face when the little girl giggled. There was no way she knew what we were talking about. If I thought how the first three plus years of her life hadbeen,I would lose my shit, so I chose to look forward instead. For my sanity and her future.
“What’s your name, sweetheart?”
“Neely. Her real name is Neely.” Istood, and so did Jag.
“Want to grab some of her stuff from the house to take for her?”
“No. I don’t wantherto have anything to remind of here.” I looked down at Neely. “Want to come with me, sweetheart? I’m your brother. I promise to take care ofyou, and no one will hurt you.” I held my hand out and waited to see if she would take it on her own. I planned to take her with us no matter what, but if I could do it without her screaming and drawing attention, all the better.
“You’re not taking her. I’ll call the cops. You tried to kill me. I want my money.”
“I don’t know yourname, and I don’t care. But listen to me, really listen ‘cause I’m only going to say this once. Neely is going with me. You aren’t getting thirty large for her. And you won’t call the cops, but if you decide to—before they close the cell door on me, the cops will find your body skinned, and every stash of whatever drug you peddle will be shoved in every orifice your body has.” Jag smiled when we looked down to theman;his pants werewet, and he sat in a puddle of his own making.
“Come on, Neely, let’s go.” She didn’t grab my hand, she held out her tiny dirty arms. I bent and picked her up, and I didn’t look back. And people didn’t give little kids enough credit, ‘cause neither did she.
We reached thetruck, and when I opened the back door, Ghost looked at me and his eyebrow cocked.
“Meet my sister, Neely, Ghost, and the newest Black Hawk MC family member.”
“Hey,darlin’. Bet you were surprised as your brother.”
“You got no idea, Ghost.” I chuckled.
“We are going to have to just strap her in until we go to a store and pick some things up for her. Starting with one of those seat things,” Jag said.
“Yeah, and a lot of other things.” I looked at Ghost. “Going to need your help, Ghost. You’re the only one out of us to have had a kid. Jag and I have been around Ally, that’s all.”
“Sure, I’ll help.” Ghost forced asmile, and I knew I’d made him think of his son he’d lost in an accident along with his wife.
“Thanks, brother.” Ghost nodded in reply.
“Can I suggest a motel closer to the courthouse around here? You are taking paperwork with you when you see your mom, right?”
“Yeah. Let’s get Neely settled. She said inside she was hungry. We can pick up food, then go the store and get stuff for her. She’s going toneed to be cleanedup, and that is going to be interesting.” Ghost laughed as I fastened the seatbelt around Neely. “Hit GPS and find us a place to stay, Ghost. Jag and I will be behind you.”
After heagreed, I smiled atNeely, and she smiled back, then I closed the door and got on my bike and Jag got on his. When Ghost pulled out, we were right behind him.
Chapter Fifteen
Devil
Neely sat in a chair at the table in our motel room and ate her chicken nugget McDonald’s Happy Meal. The way she was putting the food away, I wondered when she ate last.
