I calculated the chance of her strangling me and started toward her when a smile spread across her face.

“By my calculations, I either became pregnant in the shower when we didn’t use a condom or two seconds after I stopped taking my birth control pills, which was only a few days later. So, either way, you, Max Browning, are one potent man and soon-to-be dad.”

“You mean, again,” I said as I reached Gabriella, wrapped my arms around her, and hugged her as I lifted her off her feet. “I told you before that I may not have been there when Sawyer was born, but it doesn’t make her any less mine. She will always be first. I have the documents to prove it.”

“Are you really okay with this, Angel?” I questioned as I set her back on her feet.

“I’m more than okay with it, Max. I’m sorry I acted that way before and placed any doubt in your mind that I wasn’t happy about carrying your child. I wish I could promise you there won’t be any more crazy episodes, but it would be a lie.” Gabriella grinned, and I kissed her forehead.

“Mom? Are you and Dad up?” Sawyer asked from the other side of our bedroom door.

“Yes. Come on in, sweetie,” Gabriella answered, and we both turned as the door opened.

“Can I have eggs for breakfast? The soft ones so I can dip my toast in the middle and the yolk runs out?” Sawyer asked as she walked into the bedroom.

Gabriella opened her mouth as if to answer, but instead, she slapped a hand over her mouth and ran into the bathroom.

Sawyer frowned and asked, “What’s wrong with Mom?”

I held up a finger to Sawyer, then entered the bathroom. I grabbed a washcloth and wet it with cold water, and after I set it down on the edge of the counter, I moved behind Gabriella. She was kneeling, bent over the toilet as I reached for her hair with one hand, and pulled it back from her face. With my other hand, I rubbed up and down her back as I cringed at the retching sounds.

When it sounded like she was done, at least I hoped, I snagged the cloth and held it down to her. “Here, Angel,” I said, and once she had taken the cloth from my hand, I backed up enough to allow her room to sit back on her heels.

After she used the cloth to wipe her face, I helped her stand, and she immediately went to the sink to repeat her earlier tooth brushing process. She turned around, and when I opened my arms, she walked into them.

“Lord, no one is to say the word e-g-g in this house again. Or at least until after the baby arrives. We’ll play it by ear then.”

“Not sure how that is going to go over. Sawyer loves bacon and e...” The rest of my words were cut off by the hand Gabriella covered my mouth with.

“Don’t say it,” Gabriella scolded, then dropped her hand from my mouth and stepped out of my arms. “You and Sawyer are just going to have to deal with something else for breakfast until it passes in a couple months. Hopefully.”

“What do you mean, hopefully?” I asked on our way out of the bathroom.

“Morning sickness usually only lasts the first trimester, but there is always a chance it could last the entire pregnancy,” Gabriella said as we stepped into the bedroom.

“I’m getting a sister and brother!” Sawyer yelled, practically vibrating where she stood. Gabriella and I both had forgotten she was in the room.

“It looks that way, but you are going to have to settle for one or the other. Twins don’t run in our family, sweetie,” Gabriella answered, and I smiled when Sawyer walked over and hugged her mother’s waist. After she let go of Gabriella, she did the same with me.

“Are you happy, baby girl?” I asked as I hugged her back.

“I am now,” she said and smiled before she turned toward the door, heading out of the bedroom. I glanced at Gabriella, who was frowning, and she shrugged.

“Why weren’t you happy before?” I asked and tried to think of anything that would have Sawyer unhappy because I would fix it.

“‘Cause I just really wanted a baby brother or sister because Ally is going to get another one,” she said on her way out the door.

“Sawyer, you mean because she already has one,” Gabriella corrected. Sawyer stopped and turned around.

“I know, and she’s getting another one and a cousin, too. I heard Sami and Carly talking about it,” Sawyer said, and the look she gave Gabriella and I could only be construed as ‘what do you not understand?’, then she walked away.

I looked at Gabriella and grinned, then started to chuckle. “Well, seems you aren’t going to be pregnant alone. Though, we might want to check if the hospital will assign a delivery room just for Black Hawk births. Round three will be hitting in I would say...seven months give or take.”

“I am thrilled for Carly and Crusher; I know they have been trying for a while. And you know I’m happy for us and Speed and Sami, too. But Max...I am not drinking another thing at Sami and Speed’s house,” she said and giggled.

I snorted. “I don’t think Sami being knocked up again has anything to do with the water at their house. More as if Sami is with Speed like you are with me—can’t go without our dic—”

“If you finish that word, I will show you how long I can go without it,” she said and walked out of the bedroom.
