Raising up, I let go of her leg, pulled out, grabbed her hips, and flipped her over. I lifted her until she was on her knees, my body in position behind her. I used one hand to gather her thick hair, and holding on to it while my other hand held her hip, I thrusted into her and began to move in earnest, pounding into her as I held her head up with her hair.

All the way out, then back into her. Bottoming out each time. The pace fast and hard. Skin slapping on skin mixed with the sounds of heavy breathing, groans, and grunts. The headboard hitting intermittently against the wall.

Instead of the familiar sign of tightness building in my gut. I felt as if a stream of fire ran through my body and down my spine until it pierced its way to my balls. They began to draw up, and I knew the end was imminent. I slammed in one last time, held in place as Gabriella spasmed around me, milking every drop from me until my knees weakened and began to shake.

After I pulled out, released the grip I had on her hair and hip, she plopped down on the bed. I followed, barely able to shift enough to land on my back beside her instead of on top of her.

I closed my eyes and worked to steady my breathing. The air from the fan above the bed cooling my damp, overheated skin. Not sure how much time went by before I opened my eyes and lifted my arm as Gabriella rolled on her side and fitted into the spot I made, resting her head on my chest. I draped my arm down behind her and made lazy circles on her back with my fingertips.

“That was pretty damn hot romancing, mister,” she said.

I would have laughed if I had had an ounce of energy left, but I did find enough to speak, “I lost my control toward the end.”

“Yes, and it was wonderful. It ended with a bang. I certainly couldn’t have asked for more,” she said, then swatted my hand when I chuckled and pinched her ass.

“I guess the only thing left is to say ‘yes,’” she said and bent her head back and smiled up at me.

Angling my head and shifting my eyes to the side, I was able to see her better before I asked, “Yes, to what?”

“For pete’s sake, I can’t believe you. Yes, to marrying you,” she said. Her smile gone, replaced with a glare.

It took everything in me not to laugh. “Funny, I don’t remember asking that question,” I answered, then flinched when she twisted my nipple. Grabbing her hand from ripping it off, I pushed up from the bed, shifted Gabriella in my arms, and headed toward the bathroom so we could shower.

“What are you doing?”

“We need to shower,” I said as I set her on her feet and opened the shower door, then turned the water on.

“We don’t have time to shower. We were only supposed to get the plates and cups. Everyone is going to be wondering what has taken so long. I’m not going to be able to face them. They are going to know what we were doing.” I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her to stop her panicked rambling. When I pulled away from the kiss, I turned her and led her into the shower stall.

“If we don’t shower, they will know for sure when we walk in the door smelling like sex.” I chuckled when she smacked my shoulder.

“I’m glad you think it is funny. I will never be able to look any of them in the eyes again,” she said and reached up, grabbing her hair and doing some twisting until it was bunched up at the back of her head.

I moved to where my body blocked the majority of the spray, so her hair would only be dampened while she washed off, instead of soaked. “Have you noticed all the kids running around? My brothers know about and have had sex frequently. I mean, you went to medical school and you are a kid’s doctor. You have to know how they are made,” I teased as I washed my body.

“Aren’t you just the funniest man,” she said, bending over to wash her legs. When she stood back up, she froze and stared at me.

“Angel, it will be okay. No one will say a word. Except maybe Carly...or Luna.”

“I’m not thinking of them. I was thinking about the fact we didn’t use a condom again. I not putting the blame on you, I’m responsible, too. It’s that we have been really lax using them other than at the club,” she answered.

“It will be alright.”

“Max, I’m on the pill, but it isn’t a hundred percent. Sawyer is proof of that.”

“Alright, then stop taking the pill,” I said and stuck my head under the spray to rinse my hair.

“Hello, that’s definitely a surefire way to become pregnant!” she said, her voice rising at the end.

“Usually is. I was hoping since I’m already getting a daughter, you might give me a son this time around. The odds are in our favor since boys seem to be popping out everywhere lately.” In the last month, Jag’s and Devil’s sons were born two weeks apart; the boys officially had the girls seven to three, four with Sawyer added to the mix.

Gabriella looked at me, and her eyes softened. “Are you sure about all this, Max? I don’t want you to feel like you’re being pressured into becoming Sawyer’s dad because of Justin’s letter. With you asking us to move in, I felt you needed to read it. I have been carrying it around for a while now. If you adopt and your name is added to her birth certificate, she will legally be yours. I know I shouldn’t have gone along with Justin’s wishes. I honestly think he thought or, better yet, wanted me to find someone to replace him before I had the baby. He would mention daily how he didn’t want me to spend months grieving for him. He might have lived five months after his diagnosis, but honestly, I lost him the same day he found out. When he handed me that letter and said to put it away until I met a man I knew I wanted a future with, I literally wanted to scream at him. Then he let me read it before he sealed the envelope. I was so damn mad I wanted to rip it up, but the look on his face stopped me. Then he said it was the one thing he could do for his daughter, and I just couldn’t take that from him,” Gabriella said as we finished and stepped out of the shower.

“First, Justin was dying, and he knew nothing was going to happen to change that. He was probably trying to deal with everything the best he could under the circumstances. Did he make a few bad decisions along the way? Maybe to others, but he felt he was doing the best for you and his unborn daughter. I can’t even imagine what it took for him to make those decisions. I wouldn’t have acted so selflessly. I would have married you as soon as we left the doctor’s office, so there would have always been a legal document showing you were mine. Even if it wasn’t for forever. I would have been listed as the father on my daughter’s birth certificate whether later you found some and decided to let him adopt her or not. She would have taken her first breath belonging to me. So, I might disagree with the way Justin handled everything, but Sawyer is mine. The paperwork is just so others know it, too. I love you both, Gabriella. It’s as if I was only marking time in my life waiting for the two of you to show up.”

With tears running down her cheeks, Gabriella grabbed ahold of my arms and went up onto her toes to reach my mouth. She kissed my lips, then pulled back and smiled. “We are the lucky ones. I love you, Max, and I know Sawyer does, too. I love you even when you’re bossy and arrogant.”

“Hmm...I’ll claim bossy, but arrogant I am not. I just state facts,” I answered haughtily, and it had the effect I wanted it to on Gabriella. She burst out laughing, and I grinned, unable to hold on to the stern look I projected.
