Chapter Ten

Flirt

––––––––

We reached Coast’shouse, and I stayed by the front door when we had entered. With everything that was said after we walked in, it seemed Coast should have been more worried about the women rubbing off on Mac.

“I found out today that evidently there are some things that stay private around here,” Mac said and jumped when I threw back my head and laughed.

From Mac’s statement, it seemed as if I had even made it into their conversation. I sobered up and looked at Mac. “That there is, Mac,” I said, then turned my attention to Coast. “Happy for you, brother.” I honestly was happy for him. He had been after Mackenzie for a while, and if the other women hadn’t sent her running today, all would be good.

The women and men, with the kids leading the way, started walking toward the door, and I reached back for the handle and opened the door so they could walk out. When I looked down, a set of dark brown eyes were staring up at me. They were set in the face of a little girl I had never seen before but looked vaguely familiar at the same time.

“Who do you belong to?” she asked me, and my brows creased as I studied her features.

“Who do you belong to?” I casually asked.

Instead of answering me, she said, “I asked first.”

“Come on, Sawyer. Let’s get back to the house,” Sami said and moved closer to the door, then place one hand on Ally’s shoulder and the other on the little girl’s, whom she had called Sawyer.

“He don’t belong to anyone. That’s my uncle Flirt,” Ally told her friend.

Sawyer’s eyebrows drew together, and she asked, “What’s wrong with you? Are you one of those men who are interested in younger women? Or don’t you have a job?”

My lips twitched as my brothers chuckled. It hit me that Sawyer was the kid who got in trouble with Ally and Neely at school. The one they had also said asked a shit ton of questions.

“Ah, you’re the interrogator,” I said. It was what Devil had labeled her.

“What’s that?” she asked.

“Yeah, she the ped’s daughter, Sawyer,” Devil interjected.

“The one in the building next to Mac’s?” I asked.

“Yes, her pediatric practice is next to mine,” Mac answered.
