“Ah Jesus, Lach. I’m sorry, but I am just a human,” I said, shrugging in an attempt to sell my nonchalant act and leaning away from him. “I can’t help it if your stretching groans sound more like something else.”

“I… that’s not…” He trailed off and stared at me blankly, his fingers gripping the mat beneath him. “Ben?”

Before I could respond, my body registered the scent of spiced peaches, and I looked over to see Maggie at the top of the stairs, her mouth open in shock.

Chapter 30

Maggie

Of all the things I expected to see when I arrived back at the house, Ben basically on top of Lachlan, both of them panting and their scents swirling enough to make me faint, was not one of them.

Well, maybe that wasn’t entirely true. My mind conjured up the image of Lachlan’s hand cupping Ben’s ass just a few hours ago. By the way I was perfuming, and the wetness already gathering between my legs, my inner Omega was morethrilledthan surprised. Their scents were so thick in the room that I felt like I was drowning. Like some kind of watermelon cocktail, and I was already tipsy.

“Hi?” I squeaked. “Sorry for interrupting, I’ll just go… back downstairs.”

Ben hopped up, laughing. “What exactly did you think you were interrupting?”

Lachlan dropped his head down to the mat and took a deep breath. I looked between the two of them and smiled. “I mean, you are both sweaty and half-naked...”

“Poor Lachlan has just been tortured, I mean trained, by the best personal trainer in Fairview,” Ben said, stepping closer. “It was leg day,” he stage-whispered. “Take it easy on the old man.”

“I fucking heard that,” Lachlan growled from the mat. Herolled onto his side and gave me a crooked smile.

“Well, that’s disappointingly boring,” I said. My mind was not ready to give up the mental image of the two of them together on the mat in a different way. And it seemed like the two Alphas in the room had noticed.

“What could have you so worked up, sweetheart? You are really perfuming.” Ben pulled me in for a sweaty hug before I could escape.

“Ahhh, you’re disgusting!” I yelped, wiggling in his arms.

“Ben, quit manhandling her, she’s got broken ribs,” Lachlan said, finally rolling up to his feet.

“Actually, about that…” I said, and peeked out at Lachlan from under Ben’s sweaty armpit, which Idefinitelywasn’t also sniffing. “Turns out I’ve been such a good girl, taking it sooo easy, that I’m basically all healed up!”

“Maggie,” Lachlan growled warningly, coming to stand next to Ben.

“Okay, well, not totally healed,” I said reluctantly. “But healingand I’ve been cleared for ‘any activity that doesn’t make my pain worse.’ The doctor mentioned light jogging,” I said.

“Ooh, so what’s the sex equivalent of a light jog?” Ben said.

Lachlan scowled at him. “And if I ask Lucas, he’ll say the same thing?” he asked me.

“Yes!” I said, indignantly.

He tugged me gently out of Ben’s arms and wrapped me in an equally sweaty embrace. The strength of his scent had my legs feeling like jelly. “I’m glad to hear that, Maggie,” he said into my ear. Tingles danced across my scalp, and heat flashed between my legs.

Ben moved in closer behind me and was softly stroking my back, up to my neck where he placed a slow kiss. Lachlan dragged his nose along my jaw to find my lips and he grazed them with his own. My brain was short circuiting from their closeness and their scents.

I was pretty sure I’d died and gone to heaven when all of our phones buzzed. My heart fluttered when I checked thenotifications. I’d been added to the pack group chat.

I have news and it’s not good, Soren had written.

Another message:They’re calling Maggie and me in to testify at some bullshit IA hearing.

“What is IA?” Ben asked me aloud.

“Internal Affairs,” I said. “That fucker Sergeant Broad that interviewed me is in charge of the investigation into Phillips.”

“You’re obviously not going,” Lachlan growled.
