“How would they know?”

“Because Todd Phillips is in their pack,” she said.

Chapter 28

Maggie

“He obviously must think she’s still at the Omega Center,” Lachlan said. He was pacing the living room while Ben sat on the couch holding my hand and Soren stood by the front door. I was in Lucas’s lap, letting his scent calm my racing nerves.

“We have to keep it that way,” Ben said. “God, maybe she is safer there.”

“I’m right here, guys, please don’t refer to me in the third person,” I snapped.

“Sorry, sweetheart,” Ben murmured. “We’re just worried about you.”

“I’m not letting you out of my sight,” Lachlan growled.

“Fucking right,” Soren agreed.

“Okay, well, luckily for you, I don’t want to leave. But you are not going to lock me up like Greta,” I said.

Lachlan stopped pacing and looked guilty. “You’re right. I’m sorry.”

Soren grunted, but finally said, “Sorry, baby.”

“You’ll notice I didn’t say a thing about controlling you,” Lucas said smugly, and it defused my annoyance a little.

“Let’s just all remember that I can hold my own against that asshole when he’s not jumping out at me in the dark, okay?”That wasn’t exactly true, but whatever.

Lachlan resumed his pacing while everyone else sat silently.

“And she didn’t say anything else about other pack members?” Soren asked for at least the third time.

“No, we had like zero time. She just told me one of them was a cop named Todd and I put two and two together. She said she didn’t know about it beforehand, but honestly, I couldn’t blame her for being terrified either way. We know how much of a psycho Todd is,” I said.

“That leaves at least one other member. The other guy in the photo of her and Paul that she posted,” Soren said.

I nodded. It had been a shitty night. Any excitement that I’d felt at finding Greta had been replaced by anxiety as soon as we stepped into that bar bathroom. At least my ribs were barely twinging anymore.

Greta looked just as worried as she had at the jewelry store that day. Anyone who could scare their partner like that… I could believe it of Todd, though.

“I still want to know how he found out which Center you were at,” Lucas said.

“We didn’t find any holes in their security, and no evidence of any serious breaches. The NON doesn’t play around with cybersecurity,” Lachlan said.

“But it’s possible, right?” Ben asked.

“Sure, anything’s possible. But if there was an NON breach, we’d expect to see leaks of Maggie’s data online, or other Omegas, and there’s been nothing,” he answered.

“It’s much more likely that someone at the Center leaked the information. Maggie’s the only Omega being targeted? It’s personal,” Soren said. He finally sat down and shoved his hands through his hair.

“Well, that sucks,” I said. “But I might know who it was. There’s an Omega, Jess, at the Center that seems to really… hate me for some reason. She might’ve done it.”

“She knows where you are now, though?” Soren asked.

“Yeah, I think so,” I said, seeing where his train of thoughtwas going. “So, if itwasher, she’d probably already have told them I was living here with you guys.”

We lapsed into silence again. Now my head was starting to hurt.
