“Her name…” He looked at me. “Is Hope.”
The pack responded with a unified howl, a sound that resonated with power and unity. It was a sound of acceptance, of commitment to our daughter and the future she represented.
I turned to Weston. Together, we would guide our daughter, teach her the ways of our people, and prepare her for the role she was born to play.
The night sky stretched above us, stars twinkling like countless eyes watching over us. In that moment, I felt a deep connection to the pack, to the forest, and to the ancient magic that pulsed through the land.
Weston and I exchanged a look, a silent vow to protect, love, and nurture this precious life we had brought into the world. In her eyes, I saw our future, bright and filled with endless possibilities.
Our daughter stirred in my arms, her tiny fingers curling around mine. She was so small, yet she held the hearts of an entire pack in her tiny hands. As I looked out over our people, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, we would face them together, as a family, as a pack, united under the watchful eyes of the forest and the stars.

Alpha's Curse Chapter 1 – Emma
Thewindwaswarmand sweet like it had rolled itself in the sugar of one of those tiny doughnuts from the bakery down the street. It was noisy, sure, but the sound was different and something to experience. There was music everywhere, and all I needed to do was enjoy it.
This had been worth the wait.
Here I was, standing on the balcony of a very nice hotel, looking over a very busy cobblestone street. I had always wanted to travel but never got the chance. Between school and work, my plate had been full since before I had even left high school. While others were slacking off and skipping classes in college, I was busy taking as many courses as possible so I could finish early, and it totally paid off.
I grabbed my purse from the table by the door and headed out. I couldn’t stay inside. I was tired from all the traveling, but the sun was low, and it seemed like everyone was reveling in it. Apparently, the streets of New Orleans came alive in the evening hours and I wanted to celebrate too. I walked down to the bakery to try those tiny doughnuts. It turned out they were called beignets and they were amazing. I munched on them as I walked the streets, passing tiny shops and performers showing off their amazing skills. There was juggling, street performers playing music on every corner, and even painters set up to create portraits of those willing to pay the correct price. I even saw a fire dancer who had taken over a whole side street.
I felt like I was in heaven.
When my beignets were done, I went into another café to order a coffee. I needed some caffeine. I was excited, but I was going to run out of energy soon. The sun and the heat were draining it from me quickly, which wouldn't be a problem if I were planning on going to bed, but I wasn't. I wanted to see the nightlife and I only had to wait an hour or so before the sunset.
While standing in line I felt a tap on my shoulder. When I turned around, I was looking at a woman about my height wearing an orange tank top and white linen pants that looked loose and comfortable. She had dark skin and dark eyes, and her face looked friendly enough. She had wrinkle lines starting in the corners of her eyes, making her appear to be in her early thirties. She smiled at me, and the grin made me want to smile back.
“Good afternoon, cher.” She had a slight accent. Not really knowing the area, I couldn’t say what kind, but I thought it might be French. “I was wondering, have I seen you before?”
“I don’t think so. I’m just here on vacation. Must have one of those faces.”
The woman smiled even wider, if that was possible. I could see all her very white teeth.
“Really! How are you liking our beautiful city so far?”
“Oh, I love it.” I grinned and turned completely to her. I loved conversations with strangers, learning about other people and cultures. What else was traveling for? “I haven't seen a lot of it yet,” I continued, “but what I have seen is gorgeous. And everyone is super friendly here.”
“I’m so glad we’re treating you right!” she chuckled. "What's your name, Cher? My name is Charlotte, but everyone who knows me calls me Charlie."
She held out her hand for me to shake. She gripped my hand tightly when I put it in hers and her skin was dry and warm. Clearly, she was used to the heat. I was a little embarrassed that my hand was so sweaty.
"Emma."
"Emma? Oh, I like that. What a beautiful name! Where are you from? I don't recognize your accent."
"Washington State," I told her, moving up a few steps as the line moved, but it was going rather slow. Luckily I had someone to chat with to make time go by faster.
"Wow, that's far! Why did you decide to come here?" She asked and waved at a few people who called out her name, but then returned her attention to me. It was really nice of her. She didn't have to stand there and entertain me. She could have called her friends over and talked to them instead, but she chose to talk with me, which made me feel a little special. I wasn't very interesting and I was usually the person left out of conversations. I didn't mind, but it got old sometimes, being forgotten.
