Before I know what he’s about to do, his lips cover mine.
“No, no, no!” I scream and shake and shove at this monster. “Get off of me!”
Distracted by some street noise, he releases me. Taking advantage, I jump back and wipe my mouth with the back of my hand. Just then, Mom walks into the living room, coffee service on a tray. He lopes his arm around my shoulders.
“Here are our coffees,” she says in a singsong voice as she deposits the tray onto the table.
He smirks and guides us over to her. Bending down, he takes a mug, all the while knowing I can’t do anything in front of Mom. Taking a seat on the couch, he pats his lap. “Kenna.”
Oh, hell no.
My eyes travel to Mom, who wears a sappy smile on her face as if this piece of shit didn’t ruin our lives years ago. Years she doesn’t remember.
“I wish Harry were here to see you two.” My heart flips when she mentions Daddy. She looks at the clock. “He should be home in half an hour.” She addresses Matt. “I do hope you can stay.”
No fucking way. I jump up. “He can’t stay, Mom. He has to get to his job.Now.” I wrench my face in his direction. “You don’t want to be late, do you?”
Apparently decided he’s made his point, he stands. “Kenna’s right. I need to get going.” He gives her a crocodile kiss, then wraps his arm around my shoulders in a punishing grip.
Before he can close the embrace, however, I stride to the front door and open it. I say under my breath. “Never darken my door again. You will never see me or my mother. Ever. Again.”
He gives me a feral smile. “We’ll see about that, won’t we?” As soon as he exits, I slam the door shut. And turn the lock.
