My animal suddenly surged forward, taking over my body, shocking me. She didn’t transform us, but she gripped Felicity’s face in my hands and made her look us in the eyes. Felicity went even paler. I could only imagine what I looked like with my animal in the forefront.
“Family.” The words fell from my lips, but it wasn’t my voice. My animal let her face go and retreated. I took a gasp of air. “You okay?” My animal flicked her tail at me before curling up to sleep. Apparently, she’d gotten out what she wanted. We were going to have a long discussion about boundaries.
Felicity gulped loudly. “That was freaky.”
I nodded. “Tell me about it.” My claws retracted. “We’ll be okay, Fel. I should tell you, though. Wyn’s also a mate of mine.”
Her mouth dropped open again. “No shit?”
We giggled and for the next few hours, we talked about everything but shifters and hunters. It was nice knowing that I could forgive her and we could continue our relationship.
Chapter 33
Becca
“You’re sure this guy in Alaska will keep her safe?” Turning in my seat so I could see both of them, I eyed Wyn, who was driving us to the airport to drop off Felicity.
“Yes, kitten.” Wyn didn’t look from the road. “I’ve sent several shifters to him in the past. He’s Alpha of the Anchorage pack. He’ll make sure she’s safe.”
“He does know that I was in training?” Felicity’s coloring had improved after we’d talked and a shower. “I don’t have anything to offer. What am I supposed to do there?”
“He’s well aware of who you are, kid. Sero will be the one picking you up. You’ll know it’s him, he stands out. It might be a bit rough there, I’m not going to lie, but you’re a hell of a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for. You can continue school or find a job. Your life isn’t the Venandi’s any longer.” Wyn looked in the mirror at her. “I believe in you.”
I had to swallow the squeak that threatened to come out. That had been really sweet. Felicity obviously agreed because she sniffed, fighting back the tears.
“I hate being this emotional. I haven’t cried this much before.” She clutched her hands into fists and stared down at them in her lap. “I’m going to make you proud.”
Wyn smiled, making my heart skip. He really was a handsome man. I wanted to crawl into his lap right there.
When we got to the airport, I was glad I wasn’t the one driving. It was a maze of different lanes. Wyn navigated through everything like a pro. When he pulled up to the curb for drop off, I got out with them.
“Text me as soon as you land.” I hugged Felicity again. “Don’t let any assholes push you around.” I stepped away, wiping my eyes. I wouldn’t cry. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” She gave me a big smile. “I’ll be fine, just like my cousin said. I’ve got your back!”
Wyn put his hands on her shoulders. “I’m sending some money to the account I told you about earlier. You use that to get anything you need, got it? Don’t try to do this alone. I’ve got your new number and gave it to Sero, too.” He handed her a ballcap. “Put your hair up in this and don’t remove it until you’re on the plane.”
I got back into the car to give them a little privacy. Felicity had left the compound without anything except the clothes she wore right now and her phone. I was glad Wyn was looking out for her. It hurt a little because I probably wouldn’t see her again for a very long time, if ever.
Wyn got back into the car after about five minutes. I looked over to wave goodbye to Felicity before she walked through the doors. My animal shifted, nudging me.
I looked at Wyn, my heart leapt into my throat. He looked about ready to cry as he pulled his seat belt on. I grabbed his right hand. He offered me a soft smile as he shook his head.
He didn’t say anything and that was alright. I didn’t let go of his hand as we drove back to the rental house. The drive back was quiet as I watched the scenery go by. There was some traffic so it added an extra half hour to our drive back.
“She’s going to be fine.” Wyn finally spoke as we pulled into the two car garage. He turned the car off. “She’s strong, just not a killer.”
Throwing caution out, I scrambled over the console and straddled his lap, my ass pressed tight against the steering wheel. I wrapped my arms behind his neck and held him.
“I’m proud of you. You’re an amazing and caring man.” I pressed my lips to the side of his neck as his hands gripped my sides. I wanted to say those three words, but they wouldn’t come out. Not yet.
“Thanks, kitten.” His voice was muffled as he hugged me.
Several minutes went by. As I held him, his body started to relax. I was just about to suggest we head in when there was a wolf howl. I glanced over my shoulder to see Cody standing in the open doorway with his head thrown back.
Wyns body moved under mine as he fought back laughter. “I swear I’m going to spank him.”
Cody heard that and just howled louder.
