She dodges as glass shatters where her head was only seconds ago. The other two guys have moved forward to block her in behind the counter. The room starts to darken as Tessa’s spell begins to take shape. Whatever she is trying to do is already starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

“This is great, you know, catching up and all, but we have a reversal spell we need. Can I please take care of her?” Igor snaps loudly, drawing everyone’s attention back to her.

Tessa snarls, holding up her hands. Swirls of black lines dance along them. Whatever she’s just done, will hurt if we come into contact with it.

“I think that’s a wonderful idea. Guys, let’s go out to the cars. Let Igor deal with this.”

I sit her on the floor, turn to the door, and gesture for the guys. Surprise flashes across Tessa’s face as the guys rapidly back up to me before we go back to the door. Rage follows as we step out.

“You can’t leave! I haven’t had my revenge! I’ll destroy your little plant!” Her voice shrieks loud enough that it can be heard through the closed door. She flings her hands out, the spell splashing against the door. There’s a sizzling sound.

“Why did we leave? I don’t like her having more time to cast more magic.” Dorian runs his fingers through his hair.

“Wait for it.” I lean on Dorian’s sedan’s hood.

“Wait for what?” Noah leans against Dorian’s side, rubbing his back.

Kieron comes to my left side, leaning against the hood with me. “Sounds like Igor is doing our jobs.”

“No, no. Your jobs are to stand there and look pretty.” I pat his cheek as I laugh. They all look at me in concern, like I have lost my mind. “Guys, it’s Igor.”

“Right.” Noah furrows his eyebrows before a look of understanding crosses his face. “RIGHT.”

Now we just have to wait for Igor to do her thing. “Just watch the store.”

it's silent for several more moments with nothing out of the ordinary occurring. That doesn’t last long, though.

There is a blast of magic that blows through the roof. Igor’s large roots burst out of the windows like tendrils slithering upon the ground. Tessa’s angry voice can be barely heard over Igor’s enraged roar.

“Don’t kill her!” I hope Igor hears my reminder. “No eating!”

“Eating?” Kieron shifts forward, narrowing his eyes on Igor’s roots. “She’s going to eat her?”

“No, I made her promise. No eating the bad guy. I’m just reminding her.”

Just as suddenly, Igor’s roots shrink as they pull back into the store. There’s no yelling or roaring.

“Well, let’s go check to see what’s happened.”

Dorian goes inside first. The broken glass shards crunch under our shoes. Igor is in the middle of the room, where I left her, and she lets out a large burp. Tessa is laid out in front of her, knocked out cold.

“Man, black magic spells never taste good.” Igor uses one of her leaves like she is trying to pick something out of her mouth. “They’re filling, but gross.”

Noah kneels by Tessa, feeling for a pulse. "She's just unconscious."

"Well, of course she is! I promised not to kill her. Sheesh." Igor snaps her mouth at Noah a few times. "I also got her to give me the reversal spell, Iris. She has it written down in her cash register apparently."

I pick Igor up, noticing half of her pot is cracking. "We'll need to find you a new pot. Maybe this new one, you can paint it?"

"Yeeeesssss. I want a mural of my glorious battle on it!!"

I’m not sure how we will do it, but after today, she’s earned it. I bet Sage could do something like a mural. I’ll have to ask her to find out.

Dorian has jumped the counter, clutching the cash register, he breaks it in half, and places it on the counter. I involuntarily lick my lips as my mate makes looking like breaking the register in half is easy. He is sifting through the papers that are under the cash tray.

"There's quite a few things in here. Iris, you'll probably be the best to pick the right spell." He pushes it across the counter.

I step over the unconscious Tessa. If my foot slips once or twice to kick her in the ass, no one says anything. I keep Igor in my left hand while I sort through the papers. She watches, offering her opinion on the spells, mostly black, that Tessa has left carelessly here instead of in her grimoire.
