Brant shook himself and roared and Kat smiled at the sight, until she heard a dreadful gun blast.

Time froze as blood bloomed on Brant’s side, his fur turning crimson.

Unable to breathe, it took a moment for Kat to see Lawrence coming through the curtain of snow, his gun drawn. He fired again and again.

Kat tried to run but her body was frozen in shock. As tears ran over her cheeks, all she wanted was to reach Brant. She wished he was dead; him, Yanni and every single one of the people threatening the only man she loved, and the unknown people who were Brant’s family.

This time, the heat didn’t rise, it exploded. Overwhelmed with pain and fire, Kat buried her head in the soft fur of her mate and fell to the ground unconscious.
